you have to understand that "torque" is not true "force" in engine terms.

its a math problum....HP and RPM(i there added) get multiplyed by 5252(i beleve so)to get your end result...wich is your torque number.

thats why tq and hp graphs meet at that rpm point.

if thats not a good enough answer i'll have a few much smarter people chime in about it.

i called the shop where i got the dyno at and i finally got an anwser

they told me to look at the number on the right side of the chart and comper them with the left side numbers if the number were not even thats why the torque curve and hp curb does not meet at 5200 but is just bc they set the #s wrong but if you guys pay close attention the actually do

but thank you guy for the coments and thank you 06 black

Then there would be something VERY wrong with the dyno if that's the case. To produce that kind of linear HP, the TQ curve should be flat...

Obviously he did the A/F INSTEAD OF the torque.

I'm not seeing how anyone is reading 227hp stock - looking at that graph I read more like 215hp, which would be a gain of 23hp, not 11.

Still...that was a totally STOCK car? I can't see how you can pull 215hp at the wheel (and I've this is done consistantly) and have the factory still claim 205hp - make sno sense to me.

you don't get tq from hp, you get hp from tq, hp has for variable rpms and tq (and a constant.

yes bring more peopel to chime about that math problem, I'm not exactly sure of the cross over at 52xxrpm.

Kinda like factory claim of 300hp when its really 240-260 (WRX STI) The factory can claim what ever the hell they wont its rarely ever the whp.

How does the acceleration feel on the Si versuses your Cobalt when it was stock? Can you get wheelspin in 1st gear without using the clutch in the Si? I wish my wife liked sports cars because the Si would be my next purchase if I can talk her into it!

Yes, I see how about the Si's traction? I assume no 1st gear wheelspin unless you drop the clutch? That is one thing I miss about a car with less torque. Being able to let the clutch fly!

I noticed some people where questioning how HP is calculated on a dyno.

An engine doesn't produce HP. HP is a measurment of work. One horsepower equals 33,000 foot-pounds of work per minute. It's the work necessary to lift a total of 33,000 lbs a distance of one foot in one minute

An engine produces a twisting force which is measured using torque.

One lb/ft of torque equals the force needed to rotate an axle using a lever that has one pound of weight exactly one foot away from the rotational axis.

In order to convert the twisting force to equal work, you have to use this formula.

(Torque x 5,252) ÷ 5,252 = Horsepower

That's why the two lines will cross at 5,252 RPM

E.G., (100 lb/ft x 5,252 = 525,200) ÷ 5,252 = 100 HP
