That screw controls the effectiveness of the boost bypass into the manifold instead of through the supercharger. By turning that screw, you are only delaying the opening of the valve which will allow for higher amounts of boost.
It could have come adjusted wrong from factory and was set to open too much. Its a simple pressure difference mechanism with, essentially, another smaller throttle body.
I doubt allowing more boost on the stock pulley and tune will hurt anything. I had to take mine off when i ported and polished the inlets and outlets of the supercharger. When i put it back on, i adjusted it so it was set in its furthest shut position so it wouldn't bypass too soon.

ok so where I live it is 3,605 ft above sea level and i am only boosting 10 and have 5000 miles on my car. Is that a normal amount of boost fot that elevation or should I be boosting more?

it was such a struggle to get to 12.5psi when i was stock, as soon as i got on the highway after stage 2 was installed it would instantly go to 12.5 and increase as the rpm's got higher
it also took about 1500 miles to get over 10psi...

Guys,
If you notice he lives in Colorado so more than likely he's at a much higher altitude, which explains the 8 lbs of boost. Sea level is 12 like some of you stated.
I don't understand how he could have raised your boost pressure when all the bypass valve does is open and close. Opening it would make you lose pressure, closing it would just allow you to create pressure above atmospheric pressure but it's all still relative the speed of your compressor and air molecules.
It's possible he did something to how your boost gauge is reading your manifold pressure though.
In short, put it back to normal.

I could believe that it raised his boost but it DEFINATELY wouldn't raise it above stock level. It could just be that it wasn't adjusted properly when he bought the car.....As for his friend being a guru.....well most of us (ss/SC owners) would look at his low boost and realize that he is bleeding boost somewhere......so where would you look??? i know I would check the bypass as well as other places.
I am in no way saying who is right/wrong or smart/idiot.....I'm just giving my opinion

not making the boost i want to
well im not producing the boost i am suppose to be with my supercharger and i was wandering if it was because my wastegate is opening up too early......is there a way i can fix that to see if i can get the boost that i am suppose to be running? or what do i need to do? i have the stage 2 kit can i just unscrew the bypass valve for more boost i shouldnt lean out with the stage 2 on......
lol yeah i know.... mine does 170-175
