Just so everyone is on the same page here, this mod improves the temps bigtime while driving with the AC on. It also improves temps with the AC off because there is more airflow going over the heat exchanger now.

The biggest reason for doing this is because its free, easy, and WILL improve your power driving around town in the heat of the day with the AC on.....which is like 90% of my driving.

Interesting.

How'd you bend the tubes on the h/e?

In for results. I am curious to see if you get similar IAT2 reduction

Very carefully!

These are hard aluminum tubes that are welded into the heat exchanger. If you bend one too hard you risk the chance of breaking the weld holding it. The point of all of this was to not put pressure on the weld attaching the tube to the heat exchanger. You break that weld.....you trashed it.

DO NOT GRAB THEM AND JUST PULL!

The best way is to remove it completely from the car and use a tubing bender....something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-to-3-BENCH-DIE-BENDER-PIPE-SQUARE-ROD-BENDER-/140566169605?hash=item20ba658805&vxp=mtr

But I did it by hand......like this.

The tube on the passenger side has enough of a straight piece after the weld that you can grab it with your hand to keep it from breaking. Simply grab the end of the tube, then grab it at the base, and gently bend the tube. GENTLY.

The driver side one is a lot more tricky. The bend in the tube is only an inch or so past the weld. I used a flare tool clamp to grasp the tube close to the weld, then simply bent the end of the tube with my hand.....while making sure i was not putting pressure on that weld.

I did this without even removing the rubber lines....or draining the fluid.

That's what I was going to do.

How far off does it need to go? Just a little bit?

Gonna have to go with the butt dyno since I don't have HP Tuners anymore (Wish I kept it after I tuned the car tho) .

No way to monitor them, lol. My car doesn't have an interceptor. ***** GM Stage 2 down to the muffler stock.

yea....doesnt need bent very much at all....maybe an inch down and a tad to the right. you will see what i mean when you look at the bottom of the fan shroud.

And my butt dyno deff felt the difference around town with the AC on. adding 6 degrees of timing what was being pulled because of high IAT2 temps is something you will feel.

Wow nice job! Definitely something I'll need to do this summer! I don't use AC much, I prefer to crank the window but if it also helps without AC I'm down!

Nice stuff.

Interested to see how well this would work on a modified/pullied down car.

Be careful with that condenser - mine sprung a leak while doing this mod. Not worth it unless you have time to take the bumper off and really can see what you're doing.

If it ain't broke...

I've been running with my heat exchanger out in front for over a year now... Surely this really isn't some new breaking idea?

that sucks man. I saw how fragile that thing was and was very careful not to nick it. I even wrapped it up with a towel to be sure. Dont just jump in and start man handling things....thats how stuff gets broken.

oh.....its 100x easier if you jack up the car.

Thats what I thought...no way anyone did not try this. But....try to find a post or anything resembling a write-up about it.

Done it today! It's PAIN IN THE ASS! With ZZP S3 HE in the front, I had to take it off and bolt up stock HE in. I kink 1 aluminum hose from HE and I tried to bend it slowly with my torch but NOPE! I had to take it to aluminum welder to weld it up and bend those tubes. No Leak and it's all good! 3 more things to go tomorrow and can't wait to see how it goes! WWWHHHOOOOO HHHOOOO!
