Thinking about going turbo.

So guys I am thinking about going turbo. Reason why I am making this thread is to gather information on specific turbos and parts. My goals are to have roughly 300-350whp on a daily driver cobalt on stock internals at this time. The car will not be beat nor pushed hard very often until it is built.

I would like to piece together my own kit instead of paying a ton of money to a vendor for an already built kit. I was thinking about grabbing the gt3071r but I am wondering what the spool times are like. Maybe I would be better off with something smaller like the s20g?

Also where can I find the necessary things that I need separately such as the air intake, couplers etc. I would prefer to stay away from cheap ebay items also.

If you guys could toss up some links and discuss what you feel would be best, thanks for the help.

well i got a good deal on hahn kit as u know so i got that. if i would of had more time/ knowledge then i probably would of pieced my own but i really wanted to be turbo and got a chance to do so with the hahn so I went with that but i like it. 20g so far moves well and spools by 3500 ahh makes me giggle everytime it spools even today hah. but yeh go turbo man. if u go custom maybe a local shop can do the charge pipes and cuplers if not an auto parts should have them. get T bolt clamps for all charge pipe connectiions too

Ok so then what are ALL of the parts that I would need to build a turbo kit minus the charge piping.

I am thinking the following
Turbo - s20g
Turbo Oil solution - Hahn
Intake Manifold - Unknown, possibly vulcan?
Turbo Manifold - Unknown
Downpipe - Something cheap from the forums
Bov - not sure yet.

What all am I missing from that?

Sweet. If you had to guess what do you think roughly my own pieced together kit will end up costing?

Building my own Twincharge kit (Just trying something different)

Garrett GT3076R DBB(got one hell of a deal on the turbo too <$1000 new from garrett)
Vulcan tubular turbo header
Tial 38mm wastegate
BOV (still deciding)
Hahn 600 HP intercooler
80# injectors
Custom ground cams
super tech 78# valve springs
Custom ported head
Diamond Pistons
Pauter Rods
Darton Sleeves
Clutch (still deciding)
Single pass air->water intercooler
stock SC pulley
3" custom exhaust
3" custom intake into passenger wheel well

I had to stop buying parts for a little due to a big ring purchase and some other expenses. But full force now! Spent a lot of money so far and dont want to be one of those people that are almost done purchasing everything and then have to sell it all.

Thanks, it should turn out nice! I cant wait. I have been working 2 jobs to pay for this. haha I think the oil thing I do not have is the oil solution, clutch, and BOV. So I am so close I can taste it.

Someone I know here in AZ at a Garrett dealer, he did a special deal for me. I told him I will possibly get more of that turbo or different ones depending on interest locally and whoever wants to buy one. So the price may change but not by much.

<----- Oh and I hit 1000 finally. haha
