Whiney thank you for the pictures and write up on this thread. After 67,000 miles my 06 SS/Sc finally had its first mechanical issue - the tensioner. It took about 5 minutes to remove and replace. To answer a few questions I saw in the thread. Yes, a little oil came out when the old part was removed. Not much maybe cause I was changing the oil at the same time. No, I did not open the valve cover and release the tensioner. I cranked the car a couple of times without starting the car. Once the car did start - the chain made a noise for about 1.5 seconds. Car is now running smooth and quiet. Cost - 60.00 plus 5.00 for the 32mm socket. Dealerships ranged from 800 to 1200.00..because they really had no clue which tensioner I was referring to even after I explained where it is located!

Does anyone know if the Cloyes brand tensioner part # 95374 is the same updated part? If so is it of good enough quality? The Cloyes tensioner is about half price compared the the GM part # 12608580

Oh, and I'm about 1,000 miles from having no warranty. I've already been jerked around on the warranty once..... appearently, although the factory rev limit is at 6,500, anything over 6,000 is abuse per waranty. To make it better, of course, any time a code sets, the computer records temperature, speed, rpm, mileage, and what color your underwear are. Ya'll keep that in mind.
this is the truth, my cel came on during a third gear pull, the tech came out and told me I was at 103 mph 99% throttle, 98% engine load, I forgot the rpm's but they were almost 7k I think.....he just smiled and said they won't cover anything, damn I wanted to pile drive that little *****, he thought it was funny
