i remember maven said there was one tranny that would almost bolt up. it was a 6sp...maybe 6t40 or something. i remember it didnt support a lot of power, and it was used in some ecotec powered crossover or something.

that would be the 6t40 in the malibu and saturn astra. its rated for 277ft/lb. the 6t70 (in v6 malibu, saturn aura) is rated for 280 and the 6t75 (Saturn Outlook, GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave) is rated for 380ft/lb. there is likley more applications, thats just what they were in during the first year (2008).

just to compare, the 4t45e is rated at 325ft/lb.

i thought the 4t45 was rated for 315ft/lb i would love extra gears, but swapping to a weaker tranny is definitely not the norm...and a lot of custom issues with custom price tags

the cobalt drag cars run a race 4t65e hd. it has a host of mods to make it survive, including removing the 4th gear clutches and hub to turn it into a 3 speed. it was originally a fully electronic transmission (the 4t65e came out in 97) however what gm racing does is supply power to the solonoids and then use toggle switches to controll ground. basicly both on for 1st, one off for 2nd and both off for 3rd. the reason you dont do this on the street is becuase there is nothing to controll line pressure, so you have full line pressure shift all the time. this can damage the tranny and will be unbearable to drive.

i said can, not will. it depends on the application. if you saw the teeth on the clutches of a 4t45e and 4t65e you would understand why they wont last daily driving at full line pressure.
