Turbo Conversion!!!

OK well I finally decided to switch over to a turbo setup. I just had a few questions before I do this. How would I run the belt and what alternator could I use inplace of the stock one?

Im looking into turbos now and I think I have one picked out so I just want to make sure before I buy this.

There are a few options. I am using a 2.2 alternator and shortened belt.

thats what i was thinkin of using, i just didnt know if it would work, and what size belt did u use, just keep lookin til one fit?

I have the number I can get it for you, it's like an inch shorter than the 2.2 belt. I will have to get it if you want it.

how did u do urs, like what pulleys did u remove or add if any?

You can use your stock alternator you just have to weld the clutch on it, and then all as you need if a different tensioner and belt, it is a simple change over

damn 12 grand is a lot, i think if i get the parts i want ill be at around 2 grand

my turbo alone was 1025 and that was a good deal, wht parts are you gonna find that will be 2grand?

why cant we use the lnf belt setup?

You can jerry rig a basic kit together for 1-2k easily without counting supporting mods such as clutch, exhaust (excluding header) etc etc. You get what you pay for tho.

and um...yeah...you can't use your stock alternator..

You can use the stock alternator me and some others are doing it and it works fine. You have to weld the hub and the clutch on the pulley of the alternator in two spots and it will allow it to spin in the opposite direction. I have had mine done for almost a year with no problems. If you do a search you can find some pics of how to do it.

Yes but good luck finding all the parts. At the price you have of 12k you could just do an LNF swap

that's why **** blows up? please do explain.
you can put it together for 1-2k with jerry rigged piping off ebay and a header from a vendor..it's not rocket science. if you want the best performance out of it however you will tear out the inferior parts as you get more money and put better in....

and I wasn't aware of being able to use the stock alternator as opposed to a 2.2 one, I stand corrected.

Did you mean the alt setup from the LNF? If that's what you meant then that might actually work. Sorry I thought you meant the entire turbo setup from an LNF

No need to use the LNF setup.

Two Choices.

Weld Stock Alternator (the guy at my weld shop did it for free)... or...

Buy 2.2 alt (pointless, since i paid NOTHING to modify my stock alternator)..

think about it.

I was thinkin of getting a lnf alternator with the lnf belt and just get rid of the tensioner pulley. It would be the same belt setup as the lnf.

All I need to buy is a turbo and a wastegate, the manifolds i found used, which saved me a **** ton of cash, and the piping I have all here so I dont have to worry bout all that, and an IC isnt a lot of money, maybe $150 on ebay.

I already have some engine work done so thats another reason why Im doin this so cheap

why go out and buy the lnf stuff, if you can get your alternator modded for FREEE?????

There is NO reason to use the LNF stuff... at all.

Just becaue its off the lnf doesnt mean its going to be any faster or anything...

You can find a tensioner for like 30 40 bucks from the 2.2/2.4...

Im not even sure if the lnf stuff would fit.

^^ I wasnt sure if it would work out not.. but i guess it does.. tensioner as well?

my only pretty valid point is that... it will cost less than 50 cents to have your stock one welded (it took them 3 minutes...) And even if you did have to pay, it would be less than 20 bucks.

Shut, did you have to take out the washer tank to put your air intake down there for the turbo?

Its not though.. there are wayy more people using it than u think... infact everyone who buys the hahn kit does this mod...

because its in the directions.

the lnf belt prob wouldnt work, there is a GM part number for the sized belt you need.

What is the welding you speak of? Does it change which way the alternator spins?
