Ive had an AEM cai for quite a while now. Until recently, my car has been acting strangely in rain. So today I decided to take out the cai and examine it. As i had expected, the filter was VERY VERY wet. Even after it had been sunny today and around 75 deg ( it rained yesterday ), the filter was still very wet. Now I have a CEL, and it felt like it bogged down/hesitated every time I tried to WOT. So I slapped the stock air filter on, until I come up with a way to use my AEM safely.

 

my fujita cai is fine, throw a drycharger and see the difference, my car used to run funny and also get cels becuase of it getting wet, but throw a drycharger on and u can go wot and no water will get in unless u submerge it of course

 

Thats why i bought the Injen that comes with the k&n type air filter keeps water out

 

where can I get a drycharger from??

 

K&N sells em, check their website, u just gotta find out your measurements of your filter and find a drycharger that fits ur filter, its pretty much a sock for the filter

yea the hydro shield is the way to go...the medium one fits the aem filter

So where the heck is the water coming from when its raining? Around the fender liner or from the front area through the grille area and such? That area is suppose to stay dry even in the rain.

 

either on the top of the fog light, or when it comes through the crack where the hood and fender meet and seep down onto the intake pipe and then onto the filter

 

Yeah, I've had my car feel like its bogging down in the rain because of my AEM. You should be fine as long as you remember to drive it very very cautiously during the rain and allow time for drying before putting the heavy foot down again. I've been fine just being really cautious.

 

no rain issues with my injen, seen rain snow, ect.
i had a paper filter to test the difference, and the only difference i noticed is that my car would surge in the rain and im not putting a useless thin sock over a crappy overpriced paper filter.
dont over oil the K@n filters and your gold.

 

lol thats funny bc i didnt oil my k&n and i have the drycharger or whatever and ive never had a problem

 

It comes in through the fog light. I had the same issue with my Fujita and all I had to do was tape off the area inside above the fog light and the problem disappeared.

 

i have an Injen and zero probs with the rain. hell it rained for 3 days here,HARD, and i drove and still did some wot runs and not a prob. maybe this is an aem prob.

 

anyone have a turbo on their cobalt?

 

I don't know of any Cobalts with a Turbo, but there's an IRL around here with a turbo.

 

Outperfomz has the first 2.0 turbo!
Hes had it for about a year at its a beast! 400+whp
He def has no problems with a wet filter because of the new location due to the turbo.
Bur he has some clutch problems, mainly the stocker cant take it so hes been working with the guys from Bully to make a clutch for him!

that thing is made of paper.....you think the dryflow didnt like the water....you better pray that one doesnt get wet lol
