Warning To All Cai Users!!!

just so everyone knows, my AEM CAI fried my MAF. Too much water and other crap getting into the intake. They still warranteed it, but I had to put the stock air box on. I even had one of those hydro shields on it. Dunno what happened there...

Don't drive through built up water and you won't have that issue. Avoid any standing water and you will be fine. I have had me AEM CAI for over a year and have had no issues.

I would say it is driver error, If you want to hit big ass puddles of standing water you should have bought a boat

Mine will buck after having been parked while it started to rain... so it has nothing to do (per se) with driving through puddles. your wheels kick up water.

then you need to fix your leaky car. water shouldn't be getting to your filter that easily.

and just as a heads up guys, your stock filter is in the same location as a cai is. so if that's getting wet, so would the stock one.

I also have an AEM CAI - and haven't had a single issue. Just use caution when it's wet.

but the stock filter IS covered by a plastic airbox.... the only way water would get to it is if you've done the airbox mod... and ive had my intake for almost a year and have driven in terrential rain... like above mentioned, avoid big puddles at all cost!!!

they make SRI's for the 2.0. dunno bout the balt but they have em for the IRL.. both AEM and k and n. and yes no puddle's. your driving a sport compact car. not a boat. and if you think your wheel's can kick up water jus by rolling you must have never known about a thing called wheel well's...

this happened to a buddy of mine with his aem system last week.
He ran over no puddles, car started surging/sputtering at a stop light, engine light came on so he puttered to teh dealer, almost hydrolocked the engine, dealer fixed it for him and gave him the updated stage flash.

i had an aem filter on my intake for a week.
everytime it rained my car would surge underboost. water was hitting the maff.
so i chucked that overpriced filter against my garage wall, got an oil based filter and have had no issues since.

just cuz you dont run over puddles doesnt mean water still cant get in through your headlights and other nooks and crannies of the car...

I haven't had any water problems with mine... but that is another reason I went with the airbox mod... more protection for the filter.

I only had a CEL when I first put my Injen on. went to the dealership & they did a reflash. Then I put that AEM dryflow filter on & the Injen hydroshield & haven't had a problem since. I've driven through some big puddles by accident too, no prob's at all

My car is going in in like 3 days, same prob. Water got on my filter, cel car stalls all that. Dealer is putting a stock air box and filter back on for free. I have seen to many probs with cai's and intake mods. going to stick with the stock airbox with a K&N drop in for now.

p.s. Yes I do have a filter sheild, and splash guard installed. Some how the water, snow, and dirt is still mussing up my filter.

i was having the same problem with my cai. even if i didn't hit any puddles it would start sputtering. so i took it to my buddy mase at rebel auto workxs and thats when i found out the wheel well doesn't actually cover the entire area theres quite a large gap near the back and the tires were spinning water up into the engine bay . so he put caulking to fill up the gap and some other holes and i havn't had a problem since. now all i need is the periscope mod and im set.

i have an 07 i donno if its the same for other years
