I made at least a 50 passes on my slicks and I'm still using the stock axles to this day.

I'd rather snap a axle than bust a transmission. Axles are 80 bucks, transmissions tend to be a couple grand easy.

Good to hear, in for pics!

I'm still pissed off. I talked to Ray about a week after I sent my block off to Darton. I almost passed out when he told me that he had a few GM race blocks already sleeved sitting outside.

Oh well...

Eh, I should have worded it differently. It's a LSJ short block prepped for GM racing w/ a better sleeve than Darton. Ray basically picked up a shitload of GM-R parts that GM was looking to get rid of, and it was fresh on his mind that weekend because he had it all outside while he was trying to reorganize inventory to get everything back inside.

As far as I stand with the Delta and ECOtec products, you go to Ray Bates if you need anything for the motor and you go to John Powell if you need anything for suspension/driveline...

I would be careful ordering race blocks from Bates.

There is a RL owner who just got his block from Bates and had it installed by Maven and he is running into a bunch a problems.

http://www.ionforums.com/forums/perf...check-out.html

It starts at post 209 with the oil cooler holes not lining up and continues on post 236. Post 282 there is a chewed up crank sensor.

Although it has not been confirmed, we are starting to think that the block started its life as a 2.2 L61 block which is causing some of the issues.

So if you order from Bates make sure you or an LSJ ecotec or going to run into some problems.

mmmmm................

Glad for you bud. Ninja text so no one gets too out of shape....I'm just wondering why he didn't deck your block. Doesn't make any sense to me to not shave a few thousandths off of it just to make sure it's straight and all. Could be warped for all you know. I find that unacceptable and it has made my decision to just let my machinest install my sleeves for me instead of mailing my block off to someone I don't know other than what I've read on a forum.

Yeah, that seems like Shabodah figured it out, which makes sense. What I don't understand is how he didn't call Ray up right away for help with this. It's something that should be brought to his attention and probably something Ray may have an easy fix for that he can incorporate with future purchases/builds.

Regardless, Venom, good luck man. Looking forward to your progress...

Its not my engine.

Its easy to say "Should have", "Would have", "Could have".

I just wanted to let people know that just because Ray has a bunch of race blocks sitting around, that does not mean they are ready to bolt into your car. Make sure to know what you are ordering before you trust someone with $1500.
