What about the M90?

So is it true that the M90 supercharger will directly fit onto our cars with not many modifications. How much horsepower gain from stock will it give? and How much does this supercharger upgrade cost? Sorry for the questions. just a little confused.

This was just covered in a previous thread... its not advised to switch out the supercharger on a stock car. the larger supercharger requires more power for opperation, so it may not be benificial unless you have mods putting out plenty of hp. that would be good to look into when you have an ecu upgrade, pully, headers, exhaust, intake and such

Well what you COULD do is wait for GM stage 1, so you can use the stock computer and get upgraded injectors. The M90 will require an adaptor place to fit on the Cobalt SS, M62 bolt pattern on the bottom, M90 on the top - a local machine shop should be able to make this for less then $300. An M90 at 10psi should give you just under 300HP - stock internals can handle it - don't worry. The supercharger you can pick up for about $300-$400 off eBay that was pulled off a 3800, but make sure it has been rebuilt. Biggest bang for the buck, I think. Which is why I'm going to have it done after GM releases their staged kits.

You can get m90s for way less than 300-400 off clubgp.com. Rebuilding doesnt really matter. Blowers have been good for 100k plus. Like Vamp said, there is an adaptor plate needed at least, but after that, no one knows.

hmmm... I have a m90 laying in my back seat..... anyone in SA/ATX area have a SS?

Don't forget that you'll need to do something about the throttle body. I doubt the bolt pattern there is the same either. So thats another adapter.

I have access to CAD type design programs at school, I just wish I had a M62 or M90 to make adapters and get them processed. Seems like a good way to make money.

The M90 will not fit with the hood on.. it is too tall. Would need adapter for the SC and TB.... I forget... but there is a couple other things necc to make it work.. I know atleast 1 RL owner tried and it didnt work out... I dont know all the circumstances though... I was going to make an attempt but at the moment Id rather spend my money on mods that are available. shoot... I still need a catback

I believe that the M90 SC throttle body would need to be bored and polished with an adaptor plate for the OE throttle body to work properly.

What the heck does that mean? You can't just make up terminology and expect us all to know what you're talking about. I even googled and asked old people, and they have no clue what you mean.... so please... share with us...

It seems as if we are going to need some sort of cowl hood to allow these larger superchargers to fit as far as clearance goes.

Whipple is going to run you 1400 dollars but will put out far better gains.

Take the graph below. I KNOW you don't have a 4.6L V8 but this graph show's why the twin screw is better then the roots.

you're forgetting that we're going to have to replace internals because a whipple on that Cobalt SS 2.0L is going to push WAY past 300HP. The whole point of the M90 swap is to maintain OE internals.

A whipple charger would definetly provide the best gains. However, an M90 swap (if even feasable) would be the better bang for the buck. But hell, I'm just happy with the m62 for now. I'm gonna build this thing untill the m62 runs out of breath, then if wipple or another company comes out with a blower upgrade kit then I'll upgrade.

I'm sure we will see upgrade kits much like the ones for the S/C Cobras have sooner or later.

There's more stuff to replace besides the rods and pistons. We've also got a fuel system to worry about if we push too far past 300HP - also we would need a custom piggy back system = expensive. I seriously think we could get an M90 on our the Cobalt SS with less then $1000. The goal for me is to maintain OE internals, fuel system, computer, with just a supercharger swap.

I'm from Oklabama - I have a low intelligence level already, I don't need your caps on every word making my life harder.

But to answer your question, the parts we KNOW we will need is two adaptor plates, one for the M90, one for the throttle body. The M90 will also have to be bored and polished in order for the OE throttle body to work, and but right now we need to focus on snout lengths, belt lengths, and pulley size.
