Why PCV Valves SUCK. And pics of my S/C...

The nastiness I found when I took my Throttle Body off!



And the inlet side of my Supercharger... its hard to see it, but it is oily as hell. :-[



The intercooler... also hard to see... but it has some gunk in it.

That QuickSteel got HARD AS ****, really damn fast.

If it is a REALLY noticeable difference in sound... I'll make a video!

Damn... my dremel has to charge now!

Technically, no we don't have that "VALVE"... but we do have that hose... and usually there is a PCV valve on the other end, just not on our cars.

if you want to be technical on the cobalts its for vaccum, but if you dont like it install a catch can

Dude you will need to charge that dremel 20 times to get it like that, That reguires a corded tool! I was actually thinking of writing a How-to on it!

Yeah... I'm only running a 2.8"; so 17 psi isn't really all that much. Quicksteel is rated to 500* F... and it won't be getting that hot. I know a lot of Grand Prix guys that have ran QuickSteeled holes with 2.55" pulleys for thousands and thousands of miles.

I take tap the quicksteel right now... and it *tinks* just like metal. **** is hard as a rock.

Quick question... if I take off my snout, and take out the rotors... doesn't that **** up the S/C's timing? And are they hard to get back in?

I just got rid of that hose and put a small breather filter on the valve cover nipple .

Quick question... if I take off my snout, and take out the rotors... doesn't that **** up the S/C's timing? And are they hard to get back in?
No it doesn't they inter lock via 2 Numbs that come off the end of the main drive & fit into 2 little holes on the top of the Drive Gear! Just make sure you have something to catch the oil or have new oil from the dealer! Hell give me about a hour & I will write up a How to!

Ah... the Oil comes out if you take off the Snout. Damn, I thought it was encased in the snout.

Good thing I didn't take it off 15 minutes ago... like I almost did! Haha, cause I don't have any oil for it.

Drain it out of the little black plug that is a allen key & catch it in a cup its only a couple of ounces! Then reuse it! unless you have 75k plus miles GM says it is good to 100K Oh but be careful to catch the left overs when you crack the case apart!

The how-to on taking the S/C off is basically online. I believe it is on GM Tuner... it is in the LSJ build book... under "How to install Stage 2".

As far as putting the "plugs in"... its a puddy, that turns hard as ****. And I didn't do it the best way.

BUT, I'll try and see if there is something I can do about a quick How-To.

It's snowing now... so I didn't really get to play with it too much. But it doesn't sound any louder to me (I was just spinning tires though). There is definitely a lot better response in the throttle as well as a few other things... all from cleaning and P&Ping the TB, I imagine.

i tried that but i got a nice big CEL. i capped off the fitting on the intake so it didnt suck unfiltered air, put a filter on the valve cover nipple, and P0171 tripped almost instantly and kept coming back after i cleared it.

^^how long have you been running with thta quiksteel on the silencers? is it safe and for how long?

mmmmm , maybe that explains my 0171 code . Its only set a couple times in last few weeks . I dont get the corrolation though

we actually do have a pcv valve, and it;s inside the intake manifold right off the cylinder head... I'll post some pics of it later... don't feel like going back outside right now lol

Well... since I made the post last night... lol.

I've only got maybe 4 miles on it so far. BUT, I'm about to go do some boosting... so we'll see.

QuickSteel is very strong, and I shouldn't have any problems. As I've said before... a lot of GTP owners that I know have been running it with 2.55" pulleys for 50,000+ miles... looks the same as the day they put it in.

The Positive Crankcase Ventilation system, if not properly restricted can cause a p0171 lean code because the engine is ingesting more air than its supposed too. Even though its pulling air from inside the engine its still air. Too much air and you get your lean code.

Yeah they do really REALLY suck. I can replace my hose with a filter, but my car won't start. But I see others have it that way.

What's worse than the PCV is a turbo with a leaky seal.
