Beat on by GM as their NOPI ride and drive car for her first 630 miles, and I'm at about 16K and still woopin on the stock clutch, with STG2 the whole time and of course my additions since purchase.

Every car is different, not just with GM, Ford builds on an assembly line just like everyone else. Some people are just prone to having issues with vehicles. Anywayz...Yes, for some, our clutches are tough to get used to. It takes a bit of adjusting to know when where to shift, as well as how the clutch is going to grab. I have had to make many adjustments since owning her, and mine did slip a bit at first. Does she now...No sir.

Your car won't compensate for your driving, you must compensate for her. Just like a woman, sometimes you have to make changes to make em happy. lol

i agree with it being tough. ive only driven standard for about 2 years now but i find it tough(my first 1.5 years was on a centerforce clutch on an mustang). i find that the gas isnt very responsive. like if you (in neutral) if you kinda like kick the gas, like stomp on it and take your foot of as fast as possbile, the RPMs dont go up for a second. its like delayed. and also i always have a hiccup when im just about to fully release the cltuch. like the car will just drop about 400 RPM for a second, jsut enough to feel yourself slowdown .

I do believe we are runnin throttle by wire, and yes, a good tune opens our cars up quite a bit. She'll be a whole new beast if tuned correctly.

I used to think the cluctch was funny, but in reality you just have to drive the car a little hard, then everything works. Make you take-offs a little more agressive than if you were driving a Ford Escort 5 speed, and shift a little faster, you'll be amazed at how well the powertrain setup works. You also will get no clutch slip because it will not glaze over.

Bla, they shouldn't even be selling stock SS/SC's. Stage 2 from the lot is the way to go.

this was my first manual car, and i honestly find it very easy to drive. My best 60ft on stock tires with an ETD is 2.15

I find it easier to drive if i keep the RPMs high and boost low (for daily driving). As soon as it uses boost in low RPMs cause I shift early, the shifts start to rattle my teeth lol

^ that is the truth of the matter

yes, the SC is not the easiest car to drive.... I've driven many stick cars and this one took me a few days to feel comfortable with. But there is nothing wrong with the clutch on this car what-so-ever. I have 20,000 miles now and have raced her and tracked her and she is great!
I had slippage once when she was new and we were messin' around down at Chipmonks meet.

My son was very frustrated learning to drive a manual. I tried several different ways to teach him pedal feel and height for engagement and disengagement. He just kept stalling it. Pissed him off when I jump in the seat and just drive.
To the point.....he can drive other manuals with no problem and I warned him the Cobalt is a different animal than your run of the mill Honda.

Nope...... drivers 18,350km and no clutch problems and it drives just fine, although I am still not a fan of throttle by wire.

I've had the car about 3 weeks now, and I'm still getting used to it. This morning infact I was waiting at a red light, and when I took off, I ended up sounding like a was trying to run this guy in a Lexus suv. At the next red light, he rolled down his window, Yelled at me it was a kid zone and to slow down, and gave me the finger. I wasn't speeding, I just "Sounded" like I was speeding. lol

I am amazed how well the drive by wire and electric steering work... I did not know what to expect on the track or at an auto-X...
My biggest fear is electrical failure of some sort at speed... what would happen to the steering then???

IT's called DrvrMod V.3.0 all this stuff about shitty clutches and what not.... I can get very smooth 1-2 shifts starting hard or slow! I have 9K miles worth of hard driving, drag runs, and so forth, and my clutch grabs like the day I took her home!

'Sup y'all! Just got my ss s/c 3 weeks ago. Fun f***ing car! I did notice that the clutch feels a bit different from your average econo-box, but I got used to it quickly enough. Just a matter of getting a feel for what she wants. I think it is more a matter of the torque than anything else. I drove my boss's GTI VR6 and it's similarly quirky (although not as fast).

It's always so funny how it's "driver mod" this and driver mod that I work in a garage and drive anywhere from 5-10 manual cars a week. Sometimes more. I can tell you that none of those I've ever driven pull out the same way. We have a way steep first gear (3.38) with a very spaced out 2nd (1.76). Those aren't even close! Stick that with a POS drive by wire system (nothing beats a good old throttle cable with throttle response), and some other things like a grabby clutch (which is good), fast reving etc and it's more difficult then a normal honda civic. I'm not saying it's impossible to shift smooth or pull out smooth or anything like that. I'm just saying it's more difficult then normal. I've never had any problems pulling out with any of my brothers manual mustangs, dsm's (awd and fwd), fbodies, STI, etc with "high performance clutches". I guess it's just different. I just hate pulling out sounding like a race car and doing 10mph lol. And that damn drive by wire that seems to have some kind of a delay when your rpm's are below 1k when first pressing it.

EDIT: on a side note I raced my first person with my balt. A wrx with exhaust and that's all I know of and beat it very easily from a 40mph roll in 2nd (my cars sweet spot).

Cobalt SS hard to drive? Please, sure its a "little" rugged but thats what it is supposed to be. If you wanted a easy to drive car you should have went to the smart car dealership wearing a bright pink skirt.
