'06 vs. '07 Gas Mileage?
I have an '06 2.2 and my GF has an '07. Both automatics, 2 door, etc. The weird thing is, her car (even with me driving it) constantly gets better mileage than mine... I'm talking a good 4-5 MPG difference here. Granted, she's VERY easy on her car, rarely running it above 3K on the tach. But even with driving mine the same way, I cannot get the mileage she does. I can't seem to break 26 MPG in mine, driving the same roads, etc. I'm wondering if something changed from '06 to '07, like final-drive ratios or some such. I've got a brand-new air filter and just had my oil changed... I'm beginning to think I've got a clogged catalytic converter. Any ideas?

07's have different a valve cover like the 2.4's , same exhaust manifold as the LSJ, and im not sure what else but there are quite a few differences. we also have a different ECU

Maybe you two just need to learn to drive better. I get 24 MPG on the daily terk of 13 miles, ALL city traffic. I don't race from light to light. I have no performance mods to my car, yet....

Hmmm... I hadn't thought of that. I'm thinking it's a cross between driving habits and some differences with the cars themselves. I know I drive slightly "harder" than she does, but I don't "beat" the car by any means. Even if I drive both cars exactly the same, hers gets better mileage. Kind of frustrating, considering that she gloats about it all the time.

I have an 05 and driving around Orlando all day I get about 28mpg if I get out on the highway it's around 36 - 40 depending on how fast I run it. I think the lowest I've ever got was right before I changed my oil and changed my air filter to a K&N it had dropped down to about 25 - 26. I had an 07 rental cobalt that I ran the **** out of for 2 weeks in PA and it never dropped below 30 so I'm sure it is a little bit better than the 05/06...

Your car's ECU will also "learn" your driving style. If you make alot of slow starts and easy accelerations, your car will start conserving fuel for you. IF you constantly haul ass from point A to B, your car will dump fuel in every time you mudge your gas pedal.

All that work for nothing!! Now I unplugged the battery again, and it looks like I gotta do another 8K miles with the pedal floored to get that blower back.
Just kidding, I would never let my dad drive my cobalt.
