07 g5 BIG PROBLEM
Ok i think its the timing chain and tensioner but id like to get an opinion and what else could be wrong since i think this is the problem. ok well i was driving and i lost alot of power and it started tapping really bad the tapping is coming from the passenger side of the vehicle where i think the timing chain is but im not sure and ive heard that the tensioners go bad and caused it to skip time.. is there any other problems associated with the timing being off do the valves get bent or am i safe??

I doubt it's bent valves. If the chain skipped teeth and got thrown out of timing it would have bent all the valves and the car would have stopped running. With bent valves you get no compression and the engine won't run so if the car continued running but just made that tapping noise your valves should be ok

If it is the 2.2 eco they have had issues with the timing chains. the tensioners go and that makes the chain stretch, If i was you i would not drive the car till you get it fixed. my ex gfs mom blew the motor on her 2004 sunfire and her ecotec motor was making the same sound and it was the timing chain. it would be cheaper to get the car in the shop and get a rental then have to replace a motor.

Ok well then polachkog5 is the car misfiring really bad? And still with loss of compression in two or more cylinders these motors won't run. I had to replace my head a couple months ago because of an oil leak and in the new head there was one lifter in 2 different cylinders that was seized up and didn't let the valves close all the way. Mind you this was only one of the four valves in each cylinder and the car wouldn't start. If he had bent valves he would've bent more than one valve in two of the cylinders.

I don't know how to explain it. It depends on which cam gear it skipped on or if it skipped on the crank gear.
