2.2 Auto Tranny Problems
Ok guys....this question is from a 03 Cavalier I have and i thought you guys could help me out. Im not sure if the tranny is bad or it could be electrical but here are the problems:
1. Shifts through all Gears in 1-2-3-D (no matter what i put it in it's like its overdrive)
2. Will only go in overdrive Somthing like if i mash it getting on the highway it will go into OD other times it will get stuck in 3rd.
Could it be a sensor?
I'm sorry if listing this problem is againts .net rules. Thanks for your help guys!

had a friend, her car all of a sudden did not want to shift out of second, got it checked, she was low on tranny fluid. Check yours, maybe you'll get lucky.

Is the car warm when you get on the highway?
Had a 98 saturn, did not shift into 4 one day, took it to dealer and found out that it would not shift to 4th until the engine was at operating temp.

you didn't finish the quote... don't knock people and only post half the issue.. he also said that every gear is like overdrive... what does that mean? if it shifts though the gears, then it's not like overdrive, is it

When the shifter is in 1st gear i will still shift through the gears making it overdrive. The same with second and third. It will not go in a low gear and stay in it.

I believe in the 2003's there is a sensor that prohibits the transmission to stay in low gear if it's approaching the red line. Basically Chevy didn't want a bunch of stupid kids trying to do burnouts by putting the car in low gear and holding it there. So the computer tells the transmission to shift into a higher gear, so you don't blow it up.
I remember a post about something like that on J-Body.org. Have you asked the cavy guys there? The site is full of amazingly smart people.

Well, from a sellers point of view, if you find someone to buy the car, more than likely their going to test drive it in "D" and not try to shift it manually. If they try to come back to you down the line, just tell them "It worked fine with me". Not trying to be mean to others or anything but it's not like you're giving them a car with a busted motor, if the car drives fine in "D", it's an automatic, they shouldn't be really putting it in other gears or even trying to race it by shifting it themselves.
Conclusion - Car drives fine in D, sell it, don't feel guilty.
