2.2 Custom CAI Idea

Heres my idea. I have a short cold air intake from my old Dodge Ram. It has a good pipe on it that I will have to cut. My Idea is to remove the Clamp from the stock intake that connects to the filter. Cut the pipe to the right size to fit from that pipe to the filter box for my K&N. I will then drill holes to fit the MAF sensor onto the pipe. This way I can go back to stock with no problem. Just connect everything with the rubber sleeve and clamp it together.

You guy think this will work? Think it will look better then cutting the stock box to hell. Let me know what you think

It sounds plausible, but so far everyone I've seen do a custom CAI has ended up manhandling their stock airbox. Good luck and post pics!

Exhaust is going good so far *knock on wood* if the rain lets up tomorow I'm going to check it for leaks. I think the stock 2.0 exhaust manifold might be the same as the one used for the 2.2 and the 2.4 but I'm not sure. I posted a thread earlier about AEM or Injen for my intake, but I'm still thinking about doing a custom job. If it works just as well why spend $240 when I can get the same results for like $50.

I hope the sealant you used doesn't f with the mass air sensor... anything petroleum based with give off fumes and screw up the reading....

Granger I had the same exact problem when I made my intake. Traction control light was on and the tranny was shiftting gears superhard! the problem was the air gettin into the censor So I put duck tape around the air pockets and the traction light and jumpy gears havent happend in a over 6 months...

Yes, I did cut out a spot for the MAF sensor. Thats what the sealant is around. Tomorrow I am going to remove all the sealant and try to use duct tape. I would leave the bottom half of the box but my filter is to big. Im actually using a 3.5" pipe and K&N. (Old CAI form my dodge ram). I will let you guy know how it turns out.

Lightbulb 2.2 Custom CAI Idea

Whoa Whoa man, you are making this ALOT harder than it should be. How Ironic this is going to sound probably complicated!

1. Get a 6" section of 3" exhaust pipe, about $3 if not free from any exhaust shop
2. Get your cone filter and a clamp for it

Now
Take the TOP part of your airbox off, you CAN remove the lower part too if you want, but this will work with or without it.

Now put the pipe in a vice..GENTLY, just enough to hold it still, put a thin block of wood inside the pipe near the middle and gently tap it with a hammer until it's flat, now take a little piece of rubber or gasket material and cut out the shape of the MAF. MAKE SURE that the MAF is mounted the same direction as the seam in the exhaust pipe because if it's horizontal and the seam is vertical, well your air isn't gonna flow into the sensor. Now slide your sensor in, use some tiny selftapping screws, make sure the FILTER side has the opening for the MAF showing. Now slide the filter on, slide the pipe in the stock rubber intake pipe and BOOM.

SHORT RAM.

If your going cold air...Get some 3" dryer ducting ($5), if you want, paint it black or hightemp or whatever and then get the same 6" section of pipe and cut/place the stuff where you need it.

I had just the short ram w/ stock lower airbox, pulled the lower part out..then decided to just use dryer ducting i had laying around instead of the big plastic part over the throttle body..and it works GREAT. I'll get pics for you. Email me at Piercingpsycho@aol.com.

It may sound complicated, but it's REALLY easy.

yes my stock airbox is fully intact...and I just ordered a new airbox and filter. I have given up on this diea because I feel the Filter I have is worthless. I cleaned it inproperly and probably ruined it. I believe that is my prob. However i am now going to make a full intake with the airbox I just ordered. Im getting a AEM filter so I think I will work out great. Ill let you guys know how it goes and take pics for when it is done. Then I will make a DIY if it works out eprfectly
