2.2 to LNF Swap??? Worth it???

OK, I deleted the previous thread since I mistook the LSJ for the LNF (sorry, newb mistake)..so, lets start again...

Hello, Newb here, (sorry id this has been answered before I searched and couldnt find it)
need a little input from experienced members.

I have a base model 2.2...Im looking for more power... I have seen the ZZP upgrade but its only another 100 or so (yawn) and an LNF stock is about the same HP; so why not a swap??

I ended up buying an LNF with only 10k miles on it for $1500. Its now sitting in my garage and Im just wondering if I bit off more than I can chew. Does anyone have experience with this??? Maybe a whole new built 2.2 block would be cheaper than this swap????

Just trying to get answers before I spend more money buying an LSD tranny, intercooler, computer, etc.
THANKS
PLEASE no guessing

Either build the 2.2 or sell your car and buy an ss/tc.

I believe it is a lot of work, there's a member on here who has done it. I believe he tells every one not to do it, and just go buy a ss. I think it's the wiring that is a pain because of the modules you need the whole harness from the SS. I thank it could be done using a AEM standalone, but if you have emission testing in your state a standalone will not work for you.

I was thinking it would be easier to keep the existing computer and just use a second one for the motor alone...
But, from every-ones input, I think it would be easier just to buy an SS (LOL) or build up the 2.2...
Im not looking for more than around 380whp...(I dont want a car payment , my car costs me $75 a month for gas and insurance LOL)

Its going to cost money either way, you're asking for almost 200whp per liter of displacement. Its not a 5l v8 that you can no problem squeeze 75whp a liter of displacement without spend big money. If you build a 2.2 your fuel cost is going to go up (assuming you're running unleaded 87 or 85 if your above a mile in alt.) And its going to cost more if you buy an lnf in fuel and insurance. Power, relability and cheap don't go together.

I built my 2.2 and on 13 psi made 355 hp and 342 tq. it's definitely plenty of power for a 4 cylinder fwd car

I would sell the lnf motor for what you bought it for and then either use that money and buy either a zzp supercharged kit or a turbocharged kit for your 2.2. You'll still get great power and be almost as quick as a stock ss/tc.

conerboner: Im guessing you spent about $6k to build your motor with a turbo for your 2.2 to handle 350hp....Am i right???
blackonblack07: Thats all very true and expected

update: I spoke with Shawn at ZZP he told me to do the LNF swap

theres no way coner, i think ur underestimating ur motor lolol.

also a lnf swap sounds like a lot more of bitch than building the 2.2

trans, mounts, computers, and various extras adds up fast imo

the turbo kit was like 3000 and the engine build was less than 1500 i think. then gauges and tune and whatever else there is. I did all the work myself besides the valve springs and resurfacing the flywheel so not much for labor.

lwpmoon has a turbo'd 2.2 that he ran a 12.068sec 1/4mile at Bandimere speedway (its 5800' above sea level) he's spent a lot of money, but you could go less extreme and still have plenty of power. have you driven/rode in a SS/TC? because just throwing whp numbers out without experiencing them (and every dyno is different) in the car is kinda useless.

Just build the 2.2. Use a lot of the things from that LNF. Such as seats, dash, wheels, etc. Use the KO4 if you want to. Might as well upgrade everything else since that LNF is collecting dust.

blackonblack07: before the decline of our wonderful economy I had my toys....lets just say my S class would easily do better than 12sec quarters (others were faster)...so ,yes Im familiar with what I want, but, now its more like what I miss (hence the itch)

Mindrot: just the LNF motor is collecting dust not a whole car (hence me needing tranny, wires, computer, intercooler, plumbing, etc.)

conerboner: the motor build was less than $1500???? I thought that would have been closer to $3000, but, you did say you did it yourself...so for me probably closer to $3000...so with labor you have over $6k....sigh, sounds like a motor swap to me/for me

Shawn at ZZP recommends the motor swap over building the 2.2.....

Ultimately sounds like I should just sell mine and buy an SS that would be the easiest....(JUST HATE CAR PAYMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
