2.2 muffler
Has any 2.2 guys give any thought into changing there muffler to the ss/sc muffler? all the parts on the ss/sc are pretty much interchangable with our cars. if some one changed the muffler wud u take the resonator out?

Do not go with a FACTORY SS/SC exhaust unless it is free, no paying for it. If you want gains in power go with a full aftermarket exhaust with a Header, Taking off a factory exhaust and putting on another is just not worth the time and effort, so a search for exhaust in here. other people will tell you the same, thing. So what is it is and half inch bigger in size, if you like it to be quiet then that's your choice. But ask your self this question why did the SS/SC owner take off the exhaust in the first place?, because they went with after market performance parts.

I have a full SS Exhaust and I've picked up some power and some sound too. Don't listen to orangredline. He doesn't have one, I do.
It's a good gain. It's worth a little money at least for the whole exhaust system. The muffler alone won't net any gains, you need the piping too.

no the resonator is another tube in the exhaust system that helps cut down on the noise... if you cut it out it will make the exhaust louder... you should really check out an aftermarket exhaust like magnaflow, pacesetter(sounds nice), or corsa

Try this
I bought a factory SS cat-back from a fellow SS.net member. I pay $50 for it. I installed it and had it welded back together (they have to be cut to be removed). I then purchased a Flowmaster Super 40 and had it installed and used the tip off of the SS muffler. I chose the Super 40 b/c of the larger case size which makes it much deeper and it outflows the original 40. Since I don't have a header or the Random Technology downpipe yet, I left the 2.25" ID pipe section over the axle. The shop was only going to be able to install 2.5" crush bent pipe and it will be some time before I can get the header and downpipe.
Results: It sounds freakin' awesome. It's very very deep, very low; no farting, no bumble bee buzzing, no weed eater ricer sounds; very smooth with some rumbles and bubbles. It's enough to be heard when you want to be without driving you crazy all the time. Everyone that has heard it is very impressed and loves it.
My Cost: $50 + $85 + $40 = $175.

The SS's apparently have a different exhaust manifold than the 2.2L. I'm thinking you will need an SS manifold to use the SS downpipe. I really like the Super 40 Flowmaster. I recommend trying it and if you don't like it, you shouldn't have much trouble selling it. I love mine.
Keep in mind that the 2.2L piping is like 1 7/8" so you'll need to upgrade the catback. You're not gonna get much just by changing out the muffler alone. Once you get the entire catback upgraded then you'll need to upgrade the manifold and downpipe.

I had a V-Force muffler on my 2.2L HHR. I is almost like the super 40. I was a sweet sounding muffler. I just cut it out today to install sidepipes. I cut right after the resonator and shot some pipes up to the sidepipes. Now she sounds like a V8.

Listen Here REDBASEBOLT, How do you know what I have on my car and what i don't have? Can you see my car from Ontario?
And iLLmaTic3s is talking about just a muffler swap
(Has any 2.2 guys give any thought into changing there muffler to the ss/sc muffler? all the parts on the ss/sc are pretty much interchangable with our cars. if some one changed the muffler wud u take the resonator out?)
For just swapping the muffler out no you won't get any gains in power and there is some friggin around to get it to fit, as to going full exhaust swap yes you may get some power gains but for the amount of time you are going to spend on doing the swap you might as well go full out and do the whole thing header and all custom built exhaust look at the threads that have been posted.
Besides if you want to go Turbo which most of us 2.2 guys want, you will have to upgrade the exhaust to a bigger size anyways to get the air flow required. But money wise it is a saver just to swap. Drivers Choice!
First you get good, Then you get Fast!!

I just went wth the cat back portion and magnaflow muffler and it is killer. SS/SC exhuast is quite a bit bigger than stock 2.2. Pipe is bigger, resonator is quite bigger and it bolts right up. Took all of j30 minutes to cut and install then off to weld shop to have it welded up. Car feels like it is responding much better and over all driveablity is improved. Now when I give it gas it goes!!!

contrary to popular belief you dont need a huge exhaust for a turbo. the turbo is the biggest restriction to the exhaust flow, youll get gains but not huge gains. exhaust flow is more important in an SC
