2.2 Valve cover painting ideas?

I picked up a valve cover from an '04 Ion, the base 2.2L one, with the large single coil pack unit. I wanted to paint it and sell it, like i've been doing with the LSJ ones. Looking for suggestions on a color or ideas for a design.

I've done these recently

Problem is, the 2.2 cover doesn't have any clean lines on it. The LSJ one is easy, the tops are flat, so they look good done a different way, but the 2.2 one is all rounded.

I'm working on finding an '07-08 L61 cover, no luck yet. I'm not trying to lay out a bunch of money on one.

na, different shape on the back end. Not sure if the bolt patter is the same, but the LSJ one has a cutout for the cam sensor that the L61 doesn't have.

Just got to do it up simple. One color for the main cover and an accent color for the raised portions (ECOTEC and the three lines). If those aren't there, then just one color on the cover and accent color on spark plug pack cover.

My $0.02.

I know, I was thinking of doing that with the LNF one I had, would look good. I just gotta get one of the later model 2.2 ones now.

Yes it will fit. pattern is the same slight trimming for the coil pack has to be done. You use a halfmoon gasket from a DSM for the cam hole.

call me dumb but i actually kind of like the way the 2.2 valve cover is rounded. it gives it a little more character when it is just painted one color too. the LSJ cover looks realy nice with two tone but i think the L61 cover looks good in its own way too

I did it in wrinkle black today, will post pics/FS thread tomorrow. I was suprised how rough the casting was, took quite a bit of sanding to get it to smooth up. End result should look pretty cool though. I was tempted to paint it gold, but I didn't want to end up stuck with it

Ok so it does bolt down. Yeah, other than that little half-moon cutout, they looked very similar, I know the VC gasket is the same except for that little round cutout.

I dont' believe so, I am pretty sure the '08s were using the cam sensor. I think you could use an LSJ cover as a bolt-on, but i'd have to get one of your style valve covers to confirm.

Also an idea I haven't seen on a balt but us J-body guys have been doing for awhile is filling in the lines on the valve cover sanding smooth then powdercoating. Its gives the smoth appearance while retaining the roundness of the valve cover.
