2.2 w/ gutted SS/SC downpipe

Disclaimer: Before you denounce "rice", please remember that its my car and I will do what I please with it.

Well, I got my SS/SC downpipe from Bavoose today, and proceeded to take the hammer and crowbar to the precious interior of the cat
Well first off. lemme tell you, there is ALOT of **** inside that cat, ALOT! I probably got at least 3-4 pounds of material out of it before it was finished.

As soon as the bolts were all tightened I was eager to get it started. Upon startup it noticeably has a MUCH deeper exhaust tone, and was slightly louder than before (keep in mind I have the Pacesetter cat-back and SS/SC manifold.) I backed out of the garage and left her running while i cleaned up my mess. I went outside and immediately smelled those beautiful unburnt exhaust fumes (god i love em). After i was done I took her out onto the road, I drove about a mile before opening up. First thing I noticed is I didn't get a CEL?? I thought it was unusual that I didnt get one.

I got to the road of my final testing, going about 20mph, I gunned it, now beleive me, its probably the loudest 4 cyl exhaust I have ever heard (I only know one car which is louder.) But jesus christ does that thing pull! I might end up adding a second muffler, but I am extremely satisfied with how much better it pulls on the top end.

It sucks now and days you gotta put a "no rice" disclaimer but oh well I guess...

Get a cherry bomb resonator and weld it onto your exhaust system between the catalytic converter and muffler.

I was thinking more along the lines of a GMPP muffler, like the ones that came on the GMPP cat-backs. I really wish i knew what my exhaust sounded like outside the car though, you know?

You need a resonator on there, the cherry bomb acts as one so it will tone it down and deepen it out if you really care about the sound. Putting on a different muffler probably won't do too much depending on what muffler you have on there currently.

Also, Magnaflow sells resonators, pretty big ones too, that will do the job as well.

I bet a CEL will come up in another 2 or 3 start cycles. I think the car is designed to throw a CEL on the 3rd or 4th start after a fault.

Chances are you didn't get everything out of the cat so it could still be "efficent" enough to fool the O2.

The SS/SC downpipe stays, my reason: If I take it to the dealer, the cat is still there, they just cant see the inside

I Dont think I will ever get an aftermakret header though

haha i love the disclaimer, because we all know, well, it does sound like ass on this car, how much power did you pick up? 2 whp? going catless hurts you down low too much to benefit that (little bit) up top, and your not running any crazy mods where you would need to go with a catless dp?

i don;'t think it would be hard to tell that there's nothing in the cat once they start your car up... some of them are stupid, but they can't be that stupid... you can totally smell it as soon as you start it up...

I know some of the techs, and they are DUMB

I know at least two of them who don't even know what a catalytic converter is

haha, then you're in like flynn!! you can totally make **** up when you're talking to people that don't know what you're talking about...

Dealer Tech: What's that funny smell... you have aftermarket parts?
Hackabuse: No, that's the coils under the front mounting brace. They are used for cleaner emisions, and burn really hot. You're smelling residual dust from the coils.
Dealer Tech: O ok. That's what i thought it was.

Dealer: Hey, whats that smell, is there something wrong with your car?

Me: Well, one of the carburetors has been acting up, I might have to replace the cylinder.

Dealer: Yeah, thats what I was about to say...

when i get my header/downpipe installed...i think i might add a resonator somewhere but i dont know where to put it!! i already have that huge like 3 foot long SS resonator, and a magnaflow muffler. i want my frankenstein exhaust to be the quietest it can be while still sounding awesome and aggressive

Oh yeah,. about that

I seriously still havent thrown a code!!
It's been through about 50 miles of driving, and about 25 start cycles

I'm not complaining but its kind of weird.

the cat is completely hollowed too, I shone a flashlight through it to make sure evrey last bit was gone

but they don't just look for codes... they put an emmision sensor in your exhaust pipe and give it a good couple revs... i would keep the stock downpipe for when that time comes... that's a HUGE fine
