2.4 Mani on 2.2 trouble!!

We are trying to install a 2.4 intake manifold on a 2.2 and ran into some trouble. We got it installed and running, but keep throwing a code for the P0106(Map sensor performance). What specific did you guys do to get this to work right. Did you buy any extra parts besides the mani itself.

I did notice that the mani didn't come with a gasket for a whole thats between cly 2-3. Anything on this?

What about the throttle body? Anything different there?

Edit:Sorry it was a P0106

Did you buy the compete kit from crateengine depot? The kit comes with all new gaskets. Just look at your old manifold and see if your missing any gaskets. If so just reuse it on the 2.4. I'm guessing you already checked and recheck all your connections. If not go at it.

No. We bought a brand new Mani. I got a good deal on one. We were told that the adapter was not needed. The throttle body bolts on fine since the 2.2 throttle has both provisions. What is so special about the adapter plate?

Has any ran into any trouble with it running, or did yours work fine?

First off you need the adapter plate unless you're going to use the 2.4 throttle body. If you do that though, the 2.2 ECU won't be able to interpret the signal and will go into 'limp mode'. If you plan on using the 2.2 throttle body, YOU NEED THE ADAPTER PLATE. Also, that hole between the cylinder 2 and 3 runners is for PCV. You will need a special little block off included in the 2.4 kit. It is a little rectangle with the same green gasket material as the runner gaskets. It will have a tiny hole in and 2 raised humps on each side of the hole, each protruding the opposite direction. It can be installed either way but it needs to be there or you will throw codes. I also think the car won't hold a consistent idle if you don't have it. Take off the manifold and just order the crateenginedepot kit....you will need the adapter, center block off, brake booster modification line, and a shorter bolt for the adapter plate.

My kit has been fine, other than the part throttle whistling, I like it. I haven't thrown any codes or had any stumbles. Make sure you disconnect the battery for about an hour or so while doing the install, that will reset the ECU so it can remap with the added airflow.

Ok. So this PCV "hole" needs a plate. We were going to get the stock gasket(o-ring) for it to see if that is part of the problem. We took the throttle body back off to make a copy the adapter plate. Then notice there is now slight oil in the manifold. We made a new gasket out of both throttle body gaskets and it seems better now.

Before, would go into limp mode at 6,250rpm. Now can be driven normal and full throttle. Just have the ''cam'' like idle now.

I can reset the ecu every time cause I have a Tech 2 with us. Allows us to reset the trim.

Hmm, intresting. When I placed the 2.4 manifold on the car I used all of the original supplied seals, except for the one at the throttlebody. I reused the one from the 2.2 manifold and fitted the 58mm (2.2 TB) on the car. No problems at all, have driven it now for quite some miles and did over 1,5 hours of track time..

Right from CED's website:
http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...P1817C137.aspx

Kit comes with increased volume intake manifold, adapter plate, adapter plate gasket, intake seals, PCV seal, and brake booster hose.

You cannot use the 2.4 manifold on the 2.2 throttlebody without those extra parts.

You can buy just the Acessories for about $13, but I can't find the link on their site anymore. just email them

that is the adapter plate, gasket and 6mm bolt, you wil still need the brake boost hose.

It should be idling like stock...mine does. There shouldn't really be any major differences until you go WOT.

Yeah. Thanks guys. We looked at both those kits from CED. We thought all o-rings were the same. Just that middle Pcv hole was different. The 2.2 PCV was a rectangale shape, while the 2.4 was a big square. You actually can mount the throttle body on the 2.4 mani. It'll bolt up no problem. Our guess is we still have a vacum leak some where.

Right now we still have the idle problem.

No. We doing it on Jason's HHR. He just called me right now and think he got it fixed.

He took the mani back off and cleaned the oil out and made a gasket for the PCV hole. So far the idle is better and been driving it for b couple minutes now. We'll scan it soon and see what pops up.

the fact that the tb will bolt up no problem is fine. It's just that it won't seal correctly without the adapter plate. That's probably where your vaccume leak is coming from.

I also heard that the MAP hole is bigger with 07s than 06s. Perhaps if you have an 07 manifold then your map sensor just isn't sealing correctly either.

Yeah. Since everyone was saying the adapted plate. We made one ourselves and installed that on. After that we could drive it and no limp mode anymore, just the “cam” like idle. So now that we found out that the middle hole was a PCV hole, he sealed that up good and tried it again. So far it's good. We'll see now.

So like SSFamWagon said... this was done on my HHR 2.2....

The adapter plate was made by us and after that it was no probs. Then,I took the manifold off and made a PCV plate. I found a close-up on what it looked like and made the same thing. Its just a block off plate with a small hole. The one I made works awesome. No idle problems, runs great, no hesitation....

Although my power feels different than everyone else's posts. At part throttle around town I feel a big boost in power BELOW 3500!!! And the power feels the same all through the rest of the power band under full throttle but feels like the power holds all the way to 6500 instead of falling off. Odd. Anyone else get this feeling??

when i installed the 2.4 mani on my 07 it didnt have an adapter plate for the TB(i assume that is the plate in question) and have had no problem or CEL so far. its been around 3 months since i put it on.

and on the 07 you had to drill out the hole in the manifold because of the sensor being too big. i tried puting it in and i kinda half ass fit and i almost installed it like that. decided that wouldnt be very smart. i dont know if that could be your code that keeps coming up...?

No more codes now. Everything runs sweet as can be! We made a custom fab adapter plate and a custom fab PCV. Everything works and works VERY well. PLUS it cost me less than half what CED is charging! LOL! Ingenuity FTMFWB!!!!!

The reason why I ask is cause the cai right now rubs on the front of the engine bay right next to the radiator. I was goin to just put a rubber piece there to take care of that but it also rubs on the pipe next to the wheel well too.

only code I have so far is for my gutted cat. Anyone that says use the o2 sim that is essentially a Spark plug non-fouler, and says it works is FOS. I've got that installed and the code comes and goes. I need to run a sim like they have for the ls1 cars. I notice the car doesn't run as well with the CEL for a bad cat on.
