7k rev limiter
im getting tuned tomorrow and i wanted to know if i would see any worthwhile gains out of raising my automatic transmissions rev limiter to 7k or would it just cause **** to break.
cause as of right now its on the list for the tune. and i want to make sure that i won't break anything internal with a 7k limiter.
does anyone on here have it done to their 2.2 and if so has anything went wrong yet.
thanks

welll.. there is a couple problems
One is your balance shafts. you should get neutral shafts or a delete kit.
Your Valve train should be ok up there. But I would have done a mild build before going up to 7k repeatedly.

Yeah, most people rev to 7k just fine even with stock valvetrain, but I don't think the mild advantage will outweight the potential for disaster. I say keep the limiter where it's at unless you feel like rebuilding the head a little bit. Others will say go right ahead, but it's up to you.

I dont know about the 2.2's but on my 2.4 the limiter is at 6750.. ..valve train is good to 7200..but unless you get stiffer valve springs then your not going to benefit from the little extra RPM's..

alright so keeping it at 6500 will be my safest bet?
does anyone know if vince can modify a tune after he's already made it? cause im getting tuned by a trifecta dealer/ css.net member tomorrow and after hearing that it could destroy my valvetrain i dont want it anymore. lol.

nah im getting it bumped to 7000 tomorrow as well, not that ill prolly be running it to that often at all but just so i can actually hit 6500 without the fuel cut-off kicking in first and second i have to like start shifting at almost 6300.

remember that there's some lag in the tach. so even though it may not show you're at redline, you may actually be. just have to go by feel and sound, the tach is too slow to be accurate under very hard acceleration.

hmmmmmm true i knew that too i just didnt think of it just now. i pretty much just got by feel and sound now anyways its just it'll be nice to not worry of hitting the fuel cutoff cause that kills any acceleration plus i think it'll be good for the 2.4 mani

if i had a manual that would be much easier to do. but auto's are a pain to upshift like that if you're going WOT.

after some consideration im leaning towards leaving the limiter at 6,5k. im a college student making pennies and i cant really afford to have to repair something that goes wrong.
sorry for wasting your guy's time. but thanks for all your help.

well i got my tune yesterday and decided to leave the rev limiter where it was.
i have no complaints when i hammer down. it probably wouldn't have made much of a difference anyway.

I've been at 7K for quite a while now...
I think its useful if you are on the spray/FI...gives you more time to wind the gears out.
With a 2.4 manifold I would do it too since it pulls harder in the upper rpms.

It is safe to pull past 7k on a stock valvetrain. Neutral shafts are not needed until 7,500+ on a consistant basis. Do some searching and you will find all this info. All I see are people chiming in who have no experience/lack of knowledge and are spouting out BS for information.

I have a 2.2 manual with all bolt-ons( minus TB, and tune) I have 2 questions
I shifted at a little over 6500 rpm, would this mess up the engine?
Do the cobalts have a rev limiter that prevents the car from over reving?
