it prolly wont throw a CEL...but it most likely will beep at u when it reads no pressure! im sure there is a way the dealer can de-activate it, but that would make it useless

you need to get tires that have the TPMS on them...you can find them on tirerack.com and they will specify that they will work with the TPMS systems...all cars 08+are now required to have this...when your tirse get below 25psi they will warn you..not sure if there is a way around it tho

If its anything like my dads 2007 GMC with the tire pressure monitering system it will give a error.
He got a flat and I guess the spare doesn't have the sensor in it.
You could put them in the spare, just loosely in there you know. that way they read the pressure they are supposed to. Obviously your system would be useless but at lest it wouldn't beep at you every time you start up.
You couldn't use the spare if they were in there loose, but you probably wont be able to use the spare with your new wheels/tires anyway right?

same [basic] situation
LOL, I went to the dealer yesterday to ask them the same question basically.
It really depends on what rims/wheels your about to put on.
I have an '08 LS sedan 'balt with the stocker "steelies" and personally, i like the tire pressure sensor feature on my car, it may be a pain, but it is kool.
Now I have a friend who has a set of '06 machined aluminum 4 lug 16" rims + tires that he had sitting around because he replaced his aluminum stockers. I like the look of these rims so i took one of the the rims with me to go and find out how much it would be.
I went to the dealer and asked them how much and what it would take to get the swap done. They basically told me that i would have to buy all new sensors and stems for the rims along with all the labor to be done. The dealer quoted me about $380 parts/labor. Now thinking this is a little bit too much I made my way further down the road the Discount Tire to see how much and what their input would be.
I pull into Discount and show the guy my rims and tell him about my situation. I told him that I have TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) and would like to have the swap done. He said that I didn't need new sensors and that the ones off my "steelies" would fit on the aluminums. He did mention that in order to make sure there was no leaks on the aluminums that I would need to purchase a rebuild kit for the new[er] rims. All in all, Discount quoted me $140 total! It would have been about $80 to un-mount and mount/balance the tires. The rest of the cost was all hardware.
Now i like the price that Discount gave me, but I just purchased my 'balt a week ago. The tread on the stock tires is pretty thick. I figure, if I put these new[er] rims on, I wont be able to use my good tires and it would all go to waste. So im gonna hold up on installing the aluminums and wait till my tread is gone on the stockers.
But, here are the comparison pictures:

The sensor fits on the end of the valve stem
Hope this helps guys.
