AEM Cold Air Intake

on any car that i worked on with a MAF and a CAI i've gotten an CEL. what usually helps if grabbing a $40 code reader from pepboys and letting it tell you the code, usually, it's the lean code which you all read. as i understand it, the car will toss up a lean code if any of a number of sensors are outside of "normal" the car WILL adjust itself to a point, but there is a limit to that point. the nice part about the code reader is that it will allow you to clear the codes without disconnecting the battery, which is honestly not a 100% sure method of doing it.

After I got the CEL.. I disconnected the battery twice. With about a weeks worth of driving in between. After the exhaust I got the cel, disco the batter. It still came on so I drove about a week(about 500 miles worth of driving for work)and disco just the NEGATIVE terminal (not sure if it matters) and it went out ever since. Almost a week now wooow

I have already had the code cleared but my light came back on. I disconnected the negative terminal on saturday and my light oppped up afer about 10 miles of driving between saturday and sunday. I have a another call into aem and they still havn't called me back yet. I am just looking for any suggestion I can get right now.

i don't think so. lets try being logical... the OEM MAF would most logically be built to be able to measure the amout of air that the STOCK 2.2 could ever injest at any of it's STOCK RPM range. that is to say, it would only make sense to make an MAF where it didn't matter if the throttle body was just in open air, it would measure enough. with all that, it seems to me that the volume may not be the issue, it could be other factors. for example
bad placement of the sensor in the tube makes the air swirl around it funny so that the car thinks that there is not as much air as there really is... not enough fuel and then VIOLA the O^2 sensor trips the alarm.
wrong size pipe sucks air at too high a speed and it does it the same way.
damage to the MAF when people install it
not allowing the car to adjust itself. with any modern ECU car, i'd say after you get your new part in, let it idle for about 25 minutes before you hammer on it so that it can keep it all within spec.

I jsut got my car checked out and it is still running lean. I was told to get a diagnostics run on it to check for leaks or if it is a bad MAF censor. I just got off of the phone with aem and they are trying to replicate the problem and they will call me back when something happens. Until then my car is running lean and I will have to pay $80 an hour to get a mechanic to look at my car.

I got the problem figured out. It is the air filter that is making the cell come on. I took my car to the dealer and had a diagnostics ran on it. Everything is good except the told me the filter is letting too much air in which is causing the car to run lean. They told me to replace the filter and that is what I am going to try. They gave me a part from summit to try. But they said if this dosen't fix the problem then they said I have to put my stock air box back in. Let's hope this isn't the case!

I had my AEM cold air instake in for about 3 months, and during the time I'd say the light came on probably 5 times out of the month. They said it was a lean code but I guess the car needs to just adjust to the changes..So I ain't stressing it much.
