AEM vs. Injen Intake
OK, I've made my decision... next mod is going to be an intake and I've narrowed it down to these two contenders.

Now let's break them down... pricing is essentially the same so we won't make that an issue. The pro's I see for the Injen are free shipping (through TTR) and the ability for me to switch to SRI on rainy days/the winter. However from what I understand all AEM intakes have a bypass that helps to prevent hydrolock. If you've read the thread in the 2.4 forum about hydrolocking, you'll understand why I'm still a little apprehensive about going CAI, but if the AEM has this bypass and the Injen doesn't it'd be another + for the AEM.
So what do you guys think? Especially people who own either intake and have some advice to give. I know both are solid brands and I'll be happy with my purchase either way, but unfortunately I have to decide which company is going to get my cash.

ok.. now we have 2 problems here.. ( idonno if its only on the ss\sc) but the injen is notorius for rubbing and eventually wearing a whole through the tube, so injen has fitment problems, and AEM is known for its CEL for p0171 system running lean.. i have it and i have the cel k&n just came out wiht one and ive never herd anything bad about fujita
Than there is the Xtc on Cobalt-addiction.com which is said to be a very good Cai,, i havent herd of any problems
its really hard to hydro lock, u literally have to drive through a puddle 2 feet deep...lol and convering from cai to sri isnt as easy as on a rainy day.. the tube runs into the bumper, i had to take off my whole inner front fender to get it in

Im ussually an AEM guy but out of stock when i was ordering. I found that the injen was very simple to install and have had no issues out of mine in the two months ive had it on my 2.4SS.

ive talked to a number of people and all of them have a CEL mine comes and goes.,. it just turned back on after being off for like 3k miles.. it could be diff for the ss\sc,. i have a 2.2

For hydrolocking, you need to be in a puddle where the filter is submerged and hit the accelerator.
I have yet to have any sort of rubbage on my injen (CAI). I also have had no CEL at all. I guess I'm lucky!

I believe the AEM is known not to throw a CEL like some of the other intakes. Yes it doesnt look as good because its only in the wheel well, but chances are your going for performance over looks. Plus you can take it in for warranty work and they cant even see it unless they get into the well.
All intakes will give you about the same amount of performance. Personally i like the dryflow AEM filter.
Your good either way you go, I say 6 to one half a dozen to the other

I think AEM is just a pipe, where as Injen has some technology behind it. On all the specs I'v seen it throws almost twice the power as aem. Not sure though. But 90% of the time.. pay more get more. *shrug*

I have had NO problems with my Injen SRI. ( knock on wood ) How much more power do you actually get by switching to CAI? The potential of having water sucked into your engine is NOT worth the 1 or 2 POSSIBLE hp.

Yeah, except for the Fujita! Its like 100 bucks more than all the other intakes! But apparently you get a "Free" Duffel bag, hat, can of NOS energy drink and some other usless crap.

Could I also add that I think an intake is a waste of well-earned money on the 2.2L?
You might as well just run a cone filter on the stock intake.
Oiled filters have been known to contaminate sensors. Just from what I have read, they flow better than paper only when they are not oiled properly, and they allow more particles into your engine.

I have the AEM on my SS/SC and I got the CEL that comes with it. Oh well I dont even care as long as its not flashing. I like the AEM cuz its a sleeper component, nobody can tell that you have it plus by retaining the stock plastic tube you wont have power-robbing heat soak. Has anyone ever taken out their fog lamp and then took her for a test run? Huge difference. not sure as much on the freeway though, I think the air rushes in to hard at high speeds and messes up the airflow pattern, but from 0-70 the difference is huge, perfect for a little street action.

I have never had a cel with the AEM, has been on my car for 1.5 years, both will give you about the same HP, one has a oil based filter and the other a dryflow, I would say Injen with the hydro shild if it was me

you dont have to take apart the fender well once you get the old air box out...healight and bracket is much easier...i just bought an aem dry flow filter for my ebay cai last night...took me 15 min to take the headlight out...change filter, and put it all back together...MUCH quicker!!
