Aftermarket Air Filter
I guess this question is more or less for people who own the GMPP air intake. Has anyone replaced the stock filter that comes with it (the red cone filter)? I have some 25k on mine and it's looking pretty dirty. I want to go with a K&N but I have no idea of what one I should be ordering. I keep hearing buy the 3 inch, but that is only one piece to the puzzle. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I believe that I read somewhere that you could clean the red filter. I have also read about someone that bought an aftermarket filter and it worked fine. Just search and you will find them.

Part# 21-203DK
Washable, synthetic dryflow filter that won't trigger any C.E.L.'s
It will barely fit so be careful installing it. The red GM filter is NOT washable and rather cheap paper'ish looking so I did not use it very long.
I still have it in my storage along with the hydrosheild. Maybe I should make a FS thread in the classifieds

I will say this:
Technically you can wash any synthetic dryflow filter but............
IMO the GMPP is a paper cone filter that looks pretty cheap so I would not recommend cleaning it unless you really can't afford buy a $50 replacement. Cleaning it with dishsoap and water like GM Performance says I would not feel confident putting that thing back in my car. You don't want to cheap out on your air filter trust me it will cost you big $$$ when debris gets into your engine.

I am only trying to give him information, and since he has 25 K on the filter already, he should have replaced it or cleaned long ago.
I agree that washing it alot is not a good idea, but I will probably try this one time, use it then throw it out. For him, what does he have to lose? Ruining a dirty filter thats disposable doesn't cost hime anything.
