Dude. . .its not worth it lol the N/A cobalts can barely make 200hp with massive amounts of mods.

You also didn't wanna search for this subject either but what he said. You'll struggle to make 200whp on a 2.2. You'd have to port and polish and since you are 07 no cams for you making it harder. Just boost it.

Well the reason everyone goes with forced induction is because it's the easiest way for more power. For an N/A build there are plenty of things to do to make more power.

Intake, Exhaust mani, dp, catback, tune. Build the engine. Pistons, rods, sleeves, cams, valves, valve springs. You could make it a stroker if you wanted to get serious about it. Make it a high revving motor and slap a 75 shot on it and call it a day.

If your dead set on doing an N/A motor just do basically what he said. But for the price off all the stuff he just listed, you could have a boosted monster. RAWR!

Different strokes for different folks. A lot of people like to take the easy way out but if you have it in you and really like N/A power I say go for it.

Also if OP has a 5spd you better plan on getting a new clutch because your stock isn't going to hold long with those mods lol.

i didnt put a new clutch in my truck but thats because it was put in right before i had to rebuild it, and it still has warranty on it.

I have a 2.2L61 (in my sunfire but regardless).

Last year for mods I had:

Comp Stage 2 N/A Cams
Supertech Valve Springs
2.4 Intake Manifold
62.5mm Bored TB
eBay Gold 4-1 Header to a Cut-out
Balance Shaft Delete

That got me 169whp and I ran a 13.8 @ 100mph on that set-up.

This year I'm building a LE5/LSJ Hybrid that I hope will make around 210-220whp all-motor. I have a build thread in "Advanced Modifications" about the motor build, title of the thread is "LEJ Build". Have a peak in there if you want some ideas.

I hoping to break into the 12's next year all-motor and I'm fairly confident I can with that set-up.

IMHO all-motor is much more satisfying that boost. Almost anyone these days can put a turbo or a supercharger on a car and make big power, thats simple. To make big power All-Motor takes much for skill and knowledge, I've always had much more respect for people making good power N/A than I'll ever had for someone that put a turbo on a car.

Also, going to the track and having people come up to you and ask you how much boost/nitrous your running (cause you just whooped their turbo car) and being able to say "none, its all motor" never gets old, the looks on their faces is ussually priceless.

Don't let people get you down, sure its alot harder/more expensive to make power All-Motor, but in the end its very worth it.

Forgot all about that I have an exedy stage 2 and turbo tech tranny mounts. Would it be cheaper to build a turbo kit from scratch or buy a complete ready to go kit?

There is no reason a properly set-up ecotec can't make the same power as the mighty K.

Roush racing built a 325bhp 2.2L61 motor back in the day.
