the inner fenders keep alot of the water out. it is harder than you think to get water in through the bumper also.

K&N's intake comes with a protective "sock" for over the filter... not completely waterproof but does a lot to help repel water. im sure they make those for your also

I would at least put a guard on the back to prevent the tires from screwing it up with water and underneath it as well. It would be ok to leave it somewhat exposed by the front bumper. Unless there is a flood I think you would be ok with this setup because the bumper has it mostly covered.

I would sell that and go to an Injen short ram or GM's setup.

I use an Injen CAI in Southern La. where it rains a lot, with no problems.

However, I have the stock bumper/inner fender setup which is a virtual still air box.

Even when dry, your setup will draw from buffeting air and will plague you with CELs.

Do not drive your current setup when wet.

You are going to want to put a hydroshield on that filter. I use this one.

You can buy it at the link below. K&N makes one too if you prefer that.

I just ordered an AEM CAI for my 06 SS/SC also. Would it be safe with that setup if I have the inner fender on? After seeing those pics that set up doesn't look safe at all. Do you think the fender would provide enough coverage or should I buy a hydroshield? thanks!

I run the hydroshield even though I have an inner fender. Just to be safe. I recomend you get one.

Thats kind of what I was thinking. Especially being in CO with all the snow melting and gravel...all that healthy stuff. I had a K&N on my old car and it came with one. Does AEM make a hydroshield?

not really completely submerged just enough to the point of it sucking enough water fast enough to lock up the engine and thats A LOT so if you get hydrolocked you need to ask yourself WTF was I thinking cus you likely just tried to go though 2 feet of water

Ok thanks. Didn't really want to put a K&N or Injen pre filter on my AEM but I'll get over it

a lot of people will tell you hydrolocking is near impossible 'unless you drive through a lake' which is retarded, because it happened to me in my focus. it was a pretty deep puddle of water but i didnt see it because it was right as you turn onto the road. however, i made an insurance comprehensive claim, paid 50 bucks deductable and got a new engine:P

and it doesnt have to be completely submerged, if you get a straw and stick the opening halfway in water it still sucks water through

Water would be the least of my worries. That filter is going to have to be cleaned about once a month from all the road grime and dirt it's going to get covered with.

i remember one dude saying his car was still running after it was driven into a lake by someone that stole it and the car was missing for a couple days under water. those claims are the ones that get the whole drive through a lake rumors started

yeah, my car still ran when i hydrolocked my engine, but you could hear it knocking really bad. it busted something and coolant was leaking into the cylinders too.
