What's the purpose for a serpentine damper? What benefits are there for upgrading to this one?

it says this has a 12% underdrive over stock which i think is less stress in the motor and helps u deliver some more power to the ground

I'll copy and paste my answer from Ontario Cobalt Club .com

"Under Drive pulleys will decrease the amount of stress your motor is under by reducing the pulley size and weight so the motor doesn't have to work as hard. However with under drive reduction you also loose a certain amount of voltage in your system.

This is the kind of mod that doesn't add power but rather it allows the motor to put more of the power it's making already to the ground.

A side effect though is usually the inability to run any high powered electronics such as amps and subs because the car isn't pumping out as much juice from the Alternator.

It's a racer's mod only. "

So this would be a good mod for someone like me who has no plans for putting a sound system in the car?

a real under-drive pulley set up actually comes with the right pulley for the altenator so it doesnt have that drop in voltage. this bein a one pulley setup means you'll have that drop in voltage but it wont be that big of a drop thou. small amps and subs can run just fine while usin this. its when you start to get into the high wattage stuff that you'll have to worry bout it.

I am going to assume that our stock subs and amps will still have plenty of power

I just got an e-mail back from the company.

Brace yourselves.

$415.89

No thank you, I'll go a different route.

Still quite a bit though. I would have to see track #'s to justify the purchase.
