If you're gonna build it, at least put in better valves and valve springs. Makes a world of difference. The stock ecotec redlines at 6500 rpm, but valve float starts around 6250. Valve springs will cure that and new valves will make sure you can handle higher outputs when you're ready for it. Might as well do it while the engine's apart rather than tearing the head off a second time to have it done anyways.

If going turbo you will want new valve springs. Not sure that valves are a necessity though

Imo, I'd rather have a reliable car before I make it go faster.

I'm simply saying how many people have you seen have valve issues besides the ones who jump time and bend the valves

This. A build like this is NOT something to cheap out on.

I spent a lot of money rebuilding my car. Halfway through, I realized that my car was going to.be down for even longer so I bought valves, springs, retainers, seats, seals, guides, caps. Yea it set me back quite a bit but its definitely worth the peace of mind

tundraboarder666 floated anytime above ~6000 but he was pushing 15-18 psi.If you are NA you won't float till about 7400.I took mine to 7000 NA with no issues and 7300 on boost with no issues all on stock valvetrain. Now I have 82# springs and rev to 7600.She's a happy camper
