For that matter over 200 on the bottle without a HEALTHY shot... I'm assuming the 05 cavaliers had the same powerplant and drivetrain as the cobalts?
they are the same, the auto tranny is different though
a intake and an exhaust on a cobalt (no header) has shown to put us at approx 140 at the wheels. there have been more that have done it besides travis

Here is an example with #'s:

144 = WHP

144WHP/.8 = BHP
180 = BHP

You are supposed to divide by the .8!! My fault I'll change the equation. LOL Had it right wrote it down wrong.

But to show you the difference:
144 WHP + 144 *.2 = 172.8BHP This is why you can not just take 20% of the whp and add it to whp to get bhp.
that makes alot more sense

That's pretty good. Most 4cyls I've tinkered with would get maybe 5whp outta those 2 mods.

thats 15whp gain from just intake + exhaust, I'd have to see more dyno sheets to believe that one.

from what I have seen with these cars, torque is greatly increased with bolt ons but hp itself...not so much.

That's what I would figure. I can see getting 15wtq outta the mods easy. Looking at the cam specs, port size, valve size, etc. It just doesn't seem like those few mods would give so much top end on a head designed for low end economy driving...

its the combination of the exhaust and intake. each alone might only give a couple hp but when both are installed, they end up complimenting each other.

how many threads have we seen where someone is telling us how much of an increase they noticed just from having an intake and exhaust

well I have intake + exhaust + header and thats a stretch, especially from an auto tranny.

there was another ion guy who had intake/header/exhaust/throttle body/high flow cat and netted 132.5 HP/144.7 lb.-ft. of torque at the wheels.

That was about what I made with those modifications. This is why I don't believe those dyno results from before...

I'm not saying he's full of **** nor calling the guy a liar but just think those numbers are hard to swallow...that's all. Like I said, I've been modifying for a long time and done many more modifcations than he has on his 2.2L, so something like this doesn't seem right in my head. I could care less really if it's true or not, just stating my opinion.

Also, people lie all the time...if someone was lieing about their dyno numbers, it's for attention mostly. Some people exaggerate their numbers sometimes as well.

It's only about 40 miles and most of it is country road but once I hit the finally 10 miles, I get into the traffic. Bumper to Bumper the whole way. Usually you talk about 0-60 in whatever seconds. We go 60-0 in about 5, then it starts all over again or maybe we will hit 30 and stop again. Some days it is really comical. Seen girls putting on makeup.. all kinds of ****, it's kinda endless

no...

I was mostly saying "umm ok" to your statement of dynoing when you get an intake and exhaust. I honestly could care less what you think about my comment or your dyno results but instead of being blunt and saying that initially, I left it as "umm ok".

I've seen far too many doctored dyno sheets in my day, some were really pitiful too

ok, not to be rude or anything, but could we maybe steer this thread back onto the topic of putting more hp into the 2.2L engines without forced induction or nitrous oxide?

and razorhead, is that dyno of the cobalt sedan? if so, what are your mods?

Well I think that's already been somewhat established throughout this thread and others (and not really different than any other "all motor" buildup):

- Forged Pistons 12:1 minimum w/ oversize pins (GMPP/JE/Wiseco)
- Rods (forged or billet) -GMPP/Oliver/Carillo
- Forged/Billet crank GMPP/others??
- GMPP neutral balance shaft set
- detailed oiling system or dry sump mods as per GMPD build book (as sanctioning body rules permit)
- CNC ported head (Patriot/JBP/GMPP/others)
- ARP/GMPP/Golden Eagle head studs
- Ferrea oversize valve train
- CAMS! (huge lift/duration w/clearance)
- Valve springs to allow 9000-10K rpm
- Jesel solid lash adjusters and roller followers
- Aluminum Flywheel
- aluminum underdrive crank pulley
- custom large plenum short-runner Intake manifold w 68mm throttle body (GMPP/Golden Eagle)
- full length stepped header
- tunable engine management system w/ wideband feedback
+ impeccable attention to detail during assembly (clearances, fastener loads etc etc)

Should be able to get into low-mid 200s for what... $6-10K????
JMO
WopOnTour

EDIT: forgot you might want to go to a different ignition (MSD 7 with crank trigger and distributor?) as the stock unit wont be reliable at the required RPMs

There is no point in buying minor upgrades like an intake if your goal requires you to do something much bigger. If your girl is not realistically in your budget or idea of willingness to spend, than this would be a perfect time to not even modify your car cause it would be a waste of money.

Basically what I'm saying is make a goal and make a plan. Doing this now will get you prepared for the future. If you need any help, just contact me.
ok adam, i ll take you up on your offer. my goal? get my 2.2 up around 200hp. (with out the help of n2o) money wont be a prob, just some patiences and time is all that is needed! your turn, or anybody else?
