Blank Canvas and 1G note
Ok, well not all blank but i have a 06' 2.2 blue sedan totally stock engine (auto) and apearance wise but i have a sub and thats it. I have about a grand to spend but im curious to see what some people think i should do with the money for my balt. Im still kind of a "Noob" you might say to the site but im looking for some suggestions from the more experienced cobalt owners to see as what maybe a better buy or something that would help me out. Any ways . . . what would you do with my car and 1 grand?

it all depends on what you see in the future for your car. performance? show car? or just a daily driver that will get a few looks from some people on the street. find out what direction you want to go first.

Well i would like performance but it doesnt seem like there's to much power gain out there for the 2.2 and especially the auto. I want performance dont get me wrong but what for the amount of money i have i can get cai or sri, exaust and maybe an exaust manifold but what else is there for performance for my car? I see people talking about the 2.4 intake manifold and such but what i really want is to tune my car some how but there seems to be nothing ground breaking or stable out there. So it seems im looking more performance wise now . . .
So here im changing my post pretty much . . . What would you do engine peformance wise for my car?

I would save it for a good turbo kit or something.
Other than that I'd get a 2.0 supercharger setup. I see alot of people selling the charger, manifold, and injectors for like 600 or so. Then all you need to do is get a 1:1 fpr and a map clamp. That would pretty much cover your grand, then I would work on a better clutch if you're manual or save up for a tcm tune if you're auto.
If you're just looking for bolt-ons, you can get a 2.0 exhaust (manifold to muffler) for cheaper than some aftermarket systems and get similar gains. Snag a CAI. You can get a 2.4 intake manifold for like 250, but there's no real proof that it actually makes your car go faster, but it will give you higher peak #s.
Really it all depends on what you want to do with your car in the end. Are you doing the work yourself? With labor costs you're pretty much just going to end up with intake and exhaust

One of the first things I always do to my cars is wheels and tires. Makes a huge difference in the looks and separates your car from the stockers.
You don't need 19 or 20 inchers unless you plan to go radical.
You can get some nice 17" wheels and good Kuhmo tires for about a grand or less. And lower profile tires will improve your handling.
Just my 2 cents.

Well i dont have to worry about labor because i have a friend who would help me out and plus his dad works at Crowley hummer and knows a bit and can get me a GM performance exaust for cheap . . . he's done alot of turbo work on his buick grand national and is making a little over 700hp.
thanks for the suggestions and im debating the rims and tires because i can get some for $1,150. 18's with tires, balanced and whatever or maybe cheaper.
please add more suggestions

You could also look into getting some handling mods like springs, strut bar, and a rear sway bar.
BTW, we're probably going to have another CT meet really soon, so check out the regional section of the forum.

Thanks man, id like to meet some of the SS members in person. I'll be there and do you have any suggestions on what companies to buy handling mods. Because if i were to get different springs i dont want to go too low because of the winters.

plus, if you decide to make good power on a turbo.. that $300 you spent on a header was a waste.
you could look into an ss s/c full exhaust, that would probably be the cheapest (used) and would yeild similar gains to the aftermarket ones.
but i agree with this guy. suspension. suspension. suspension.
it will feel like a totally different car when you're driving.. in a good way.
ssc springs are the smallest drop, i think.. or maybe the eibach pro kit

i think this would be the best place to begin. with these mods, you'll really get something for your money. the i/e/h, will give some power, but not enough that its worth 1,000 dollars.

i dont know what that means, but i guess the thumbs up is good
all i can come up with for QFT is "Quit F'in Talking" but i dont think thats what you meant.
yeah, i've heard that when you do the strut tower bar w/o the sway bar, it makes the car understeer like a bitch.

I bought some stock SS/SC springs off of a member for cheap. They don't give you much of a drop at all, but the handling is greatly improved. My advice to you is to look for a while in the classifieds on the forum for a strut bar and/or a rear sway bar. For the most part a strut bar is just a strut bar, so I would go with the one that is at the best price. And If you have to choose between one or the other for $$ reasons, I suggest that you go with the rear sway bar first.
QFT, chevy!

Any more suggestions? Actually a good light weight wheel and tire combo would be sick if anyone has suggestions on that because i was looking into buying rims and tires for next spring and taking the stocker rims and putting snow tires on her and riding the rims till it got to snow.
