Brainstorming the 2.2L Autoturbo again..come kill my dreams!

so. im thinking again about a solutions to our auto tranny woes...

If what Im told about there not being a problem at WOT is true (I.e. the fucked up shifts would be during like daily driving and what not)

then...

what would happen if you had a boost controller, and u went down to like 1-2psi during normal driving...and then went up to the normal 6-9 at the track or racing?

would the car run ok with the piggyback tune at a lower boost lvl?

Well heres the thing. a boost controller works by moving air away from the wastegate actuator. The lowest boost levels i've seen are a 7-8lb spring. For a boost controller to work properly you should use a wastegate spring that is set to your lowest boost level, then use the boost controller to bleed air away from that spring to make the desired boost you want. Basically if you have a 8lb spring and you want to go between 8 and 12lb's, you must bleed 4lb's of boost away from the spring so that the actuator only sees 8lb's but your car is actually seeing 12lb's. Going all the way down to 1-2lb's at least in my mind seems really low for a turbo.

Ask speed mafia about running boost on a stock auto trans. He had a procharger on his ion(i've even been in it) that was auto and never had problems with the tranny. Its not quite the same tranny you guys are running, it was the one where the rpm's never changed under WOT. Which for boost is pretty cool(no time for turbo or procharger to stop spinning from rpm drop). I dunno, i think you should try it and see what happens. every car is different. Maybe yours will run great for a real long time.

I don't even know if anyone is even working on a tranny tune.

Earth Garrett there is a ton of orders waiting please give us a tranny tune.

daily driving would be fine...its WOT driving that would be an issue....our trannies clutch packs apply enough pressure to shift 150HP into the next gear...it will not be able to shift 200HP into the next gear because you are not applying enough pressure. it would be similar to clutch slip on a manual when using a stock clutch when your making 250HP. You need a way to increase the line pressure to make a stronger shift in the transmission.

I am not sure what the issue is, but is it something the shiftplus could help? it electronically regulates the line pressure creating the more aggressive and stronger shift

shiftplus was an idea i had before. apparently that will **** it up without a proper tune.

As far as the tranny goes, from what im told anyways it seems wot would be fine becuase it would have full line pressure or w/e, and the tranny can hold 250 hp. however the slower not wot shifts would slip becuase of how drawn out they are. and not only that, but that much power would make alot of heat even if it did work. so...bye bye tranny after probly not too long.

You could re-shim the clutch packs with tighter tolerances, but then that would make daily driving very harsh. It would be like doing a clutch dump every time it shifted to the next gear.

Thats how the old V-8's did it. Take up the slack between the packs = instant engagement

The computer freaks out, cause it calculates TPS position, pedal position, gear selection, Vehicle speed. It knows where redline is, shifts before it, meanwhile reducing the TPS so not to increase RPM's during the shift change.

With a Dashhawk or preferably a GM tech2 scanner you can watch it all happen.

Shiftkit only sures up shift points. Its not what this application should use.

Well, back to the original topic i guess since no one has officially disproved it yet.

Is there a way to greatly reduce the boost at will?

hell....even installing some kind of closable "vent" on the charge tubing might work..purposly creating a boost leak during normal driving and closing it during WOT runs...'

just spitballing. forgive any ignorance

What youre thinking of is one of those superchargers that has an A/C clutch on it.

no boost unless you manually turn on the arm switch and it doesnt lockup the clutch untill 3/4 throttle is applied. Practically Nitrous.

That is interesting. So this would technically work you say?

Anyways, Im not really stressing about the lack up tuning too much yet. theres too many things i need to do before i even think about boost. hopefully in due time


edit: I actually looked at the link. is there anything similar to this for us?

the B&M shift plus.....would probably help u out in rasing the line pressure.....it works......u should read up on it.....

If you're talking about the B&M Shift+ then yes there are several members with it installed and it works fine.
