i was looking around and didn't come up with much when i tried searching so i just wanted to know if anyone tried making their own cold air intake. or how hard it was. i think im going to do it and post a how too i just gotta come up with some ideas and if anyone would actually be interested in a how-to. let me knoww.

Oh hey dude it's actually not that bad, I was looking at Spectre performance, they have all the joints and everything you need, even the plates for the MAF sensor, but the one thing you have to know is that the MAF is calculated to be a certain distance from the throttlebody, farther or closer and it'll throw a CEL. I was looking at parts, I think you could building one for about 25-50 bucks less than buying a solid one, but then again, the more links you have in a chain, the more chances there are for one of them to break. I was thinking about that, where are you located?

yeah thats what i was worried about when i heard the MAF sensor was anywhere near the cold air. i havn't really taken the time out to look at it but i know it has to be possible with one piece of piping and an air filter. im about to order lowering springs and an exhaust and dont want to spend the 250 on an injen or something i just dont think its worth it. and i also don't want to but my airbox in half.

but im all the way in ohio. im like 5 billion miles away from you.

Man, you're out of your mind. If you want performance, you gotta pay for it, and injen is definitely worth the money.

i just have a problem believing that the difference between an injen cold air would be so much different then a piece of piping with an intake on the end of it. it would actually have to be proven to me. but thats what im gunna end up doing but since i dont have the money now i was just going to get my own together for real cheap

The difference between doing your own **** and buying the product from a performance company is that they test and build their products, so that they'll give the best performance gain. Its all common sense man, but if you'd like to join in with the ricers, grab yourself some PVC from Home Depot.

go to ur local perf. shop and ask for Spertre Performance Modular Air Intake Systems. ive used thses on alot of cars and they work gr8. most pep boys stock the stuff.

Downside- had to cut up the stock top half of the airbox to use the MAF housing.

i've used that stuff before. and it worked fine.

Yeah I tell u what I get paid tomorrow (woohoo!) so I'm probably going to order a crapload of parts from spectre, they have everything you need and it really wouldn't be that hard, you can model it pretty close to the injen style as long as you have a picture and a decent imagination (and a good sense of scale). I was thinking about getting a mockup kit today and doing it tomorrow. I'll post a pic of it when I get some time.

The one thing I'm afraid of with PVC is the melting point for the plastic isn't that great....any thoughts?

go to Autozone or Pepboys and get some of those Spectre parts. Just be aware, their stuff is Plastic, yes Plastic, not metal ;(

agreed. do NOT use pvc. look at the pic i posted above, that was pep boys parts. yes, it's plastic, but it's thick and doesn't get hot. i drove a few hundred miles with it on non stop, checked it, and it was cool to the touch. it def. won't melt.

im not a mechanic, not even close. i know the basic, intake, exhaust, wheel stuff, but you go into vavles or oil pumps, and you lost me quick

thats pretty funny tho, i got a buddy with an old 92 buick, hunk of junk, but hes always using duck tape or staples or elmers glue, etc to fix ****. he doesnt listen
