Buying a Supercharger from the dealer ...
I am looking into purchasing a supercharger, and I am wondering if I can go through the dealer to get it to keep the warranty valid. They would obviously have to install it, and I would like to see if anyone knows anything about this and how much it would cost if the dealer CAN do it.

First of all thers is NO tuning for the 2.2l so they wouldnt be able to put it on right now. Second, the supercharger will void your warranty on the engine but you will then have a warranty on the supercharger.

That doesn't make sense though. If I went through the dealer, wouldn't that not void my warranty? I know you can do work to your engine, but it HAS to be done by your dealer.

Thats what I thought so I asked my dealer and he said that if you ad any type of forced induction it will void the warrenty. Seems retarted to me though, if it is a GM product and they put it on it should still be under warrenty

Yeah, True, BUT W/ THE BOOST, YOU HAVE A LARGE CHANCE OF BLOWING YOUR ENGINE, BECAUSE OF THE STOCK INTERNALS! NOT THE SAME AS THAT OF THE SS/SC. Why would they warranty something that knowingly has an inherent risk of blowing up?

Its not made for a blower tho so they cant waranty it. They can put a waranty on exhaust and intake because they were made for our cars and such..........Sucks tho i know.....(right guys??)

um...the problem isnt that they will/wont void your warranty, look up the magnusson-moss act, unless it directly causes the problem, all problems are repaired under warranty.

save the money for a house, or keep it in the bank for when something good actually does come out.

The GM supercharger kit IS for the Cavaliers/Sunfires and not the 2.2 Cobalts. It DOES NOT void the warranty on those cars. It is a GM Performance part that is covered under the standard GM warranty. Also, the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act does protect you from warranty denial without proof of fault.

Ok, there is a few things that some people are misinformed about:
1. Just cause you buy something from a dealership doesn't mean that it's a warrantied part. You could buy anything from them, the warranty standpoint is if they install it. If they install something, it's warrantied work.
2. The supercharger (like someone has said before) was designed for the Cavaliers/Sunfire (J-bodies)...now I said designed, not that it won't work on your car. People, understand that it's the same damn engine. Every 2.2 ECOTEC is exactly the same (internally). The reason it was made for the Cavaliers & Sunfires has nothing to do with the supercharger itself...it's cause of the reflash.
The reflash that is available for the Jbodies converts the Jbodies from an IAT & 1 bar MAP Sensor combo to a single TMAP 2.5 Bar system so it is capable of reading above atmospheric pressure. The TMAP sensor is the same sensor that the 2.0 S/Cs use (look at the top of their superchargers and you'll see a sensor). The reflash also adjusts the duty cycle on the Jbodies properly so that they will idle properly with bigger injectors (same size that the stock 2.0s use). It also adjusts ignition timing and fuel maps.
So I will say it again, it has nothing to do with the supercharger itself, it's the reflash. Physically, it can fit and work but GM is not going to warranty a Cobalt/Ion with this kit regardless if it fits if there is no type of reflash programming to have everything work properly. If you were to put this kit on your car, you'll just run into nothing but problems cause you have no tuning capabilities unless you decide to do something as far as a standalone...but even still...warranty voided and nothing will be covered if anything happends.
3. Like I said before, it's the same 2.2 engine as the Jbodies. If you guys really think GM didn't think the 2.2 Jbodies couldn't handle a supercharger w/a 3.5" pulley (pushing around 9-10 PSI), they wouldn't have developed it and they wouldn't have warrantied it. It would be a liability issue. On that setup alone, if done properly, it can handle it fine.
4. There is no exact HP amount that your engine can handle! It depends on ALOT of different factors as far as why some engines last longer than others. You could blow your engine with a 180 HP...well under the 250 HP that people love to go by. If you don't do things properly, I don't care if you have a fully forged 4 cylinder motor, you can still have issues and things won't work.
5. Upgrades for the 2.2L is purely optional. When you start understanding how boost effects an engine, you'll understand what you should change but everything has it's limitations. Your stock engine, with a certain limitation and moderation, can handle boost pressure just fine. If you're aiming for something way out it's range, then yes, upgrade. You don't need to upgrade every single engine part just cause you're going the boost route and looking for 200 HP...that's just plain silly.
So hopefully this clears up alot of misconceptions and confussion. If you have any questions just ask.

The 2.2L engine isnt tuned and manufactured to meet the demands that the 2.0L is. that would be voidin warranty big time. I jus figured out for myself that when buying a car to make sure I get what I want in it which is why I got the SS/SC model .. no mods, no nothing .. like it the way it is
