CAI vs. SRI
Hey guys, I'm new to the forums and I was looking into buying an intake for my Cobalt. I don't want to do anything too drastic in terms of mods (it's my dd), but giving it a little more oomph would be nice without breaking the bank. I was doing some browsing through the forums and I noticed that everyone had their own preference of intakes (Injen, GMPP, AEM, etc.), but which one could I expect the most gains out of?
I was thinking of going with GMPP or K&N, seeing that I don't have to take off the front bumper if I went CAI, yet if that would make more HP, then I guess it'd be worth it. Let me know what you think. Thanks

Personally I bought Injen for my 2.2 and love it

Go with the ebay intake you save about 150 bucks and its cold airthe one i have was 90 bucks. you will break the bank with a 250 intake that does that same as the name brand 200 dollar ones. u dont have to take off you front bumper its really easy to install and wont throw a code.

go with the ebay intake. As stated it works the same for $50. I'd venture to guess hundreds of people have bought it with no issues. I never once had a CEL from it. It's just a re-engineered AEM intake.

Does not come with filter so add K&N or AEM filter to it and move on in life.

Ha, I might as well be better off buying pieces of piping then right lol. I have nothing against making my own intake, but if I messed something up or it messed up, I'd be screwed with no warranty. That's the only reason I'd buy a name brand intake. My dad just cringes at the fact that I'd spend the money on my car instead of his lol.

I say go with Injen or Fujita I myself went with Fujita. All I know is in my ss It pulls harder all the way til I let off. Fujita is a bit more expensive but best intake I've ever had (I've had a lot of different kind of intakes on different cars). I don't recomend ebay intakes, don't be cheap spend the money and get a good one IMO
Looking at his username I'm guessing 06 LT

Go with ingen, that way you can switch between which ever one you like.
Your probably not going to see a true huge hp gain because your simply just improving the air intake. If you go intake, header, high flow cat, and then exhaust you would really see some gains, but otherwise just an intake gives you a better sound, throttle response and feel. I have an ingen and i love the fact that i can switch. On my old SS/SC i modified the air box and stuck on a K&n cone filter. Check out turbo tech for a intake i got a pretty good deal on mine and there's no reason to take off the front bumper period the black plastic inside the wheel well is incredibly flexible you can do it in probably 30-45 mins carefully never having done it before.

If you are worried about the warranty, you could go with the GMPP and never have to worry. The GMPP is good for about 1 MPG on the highway and the throttle response is WAY better. It doesn't cost much either.

I'm running my Injen in the SRI configuration right now. Butt dyno, at least combined with the tune, gave a pretty noticeable diff. it's obvious i got gains all the way through.
on a side note, March 6th the raceway opens out here, I'll finally have some 1/4 times for ya'll.

For the SS/SC it might be a good intake, but for a 2.2L the intake only replaces the airbox and silencer. You still have to use the stock portion that connects to the throttle body.

there is nothing shameful in buying an Injen or K&N system.
i don't hate on you for having the ebay intake, because it was just a choice both of us made. the injen has proven results so i went with it.
i can't wait for the 2.4 mani. it will be purchased at some point this summer, i kinda want the gm body kit first

i have the fijita cai, and personally i dont like it. it only replaced the airbox and ****. i still have the big bulky thing on top of the throttle body. im gonna build my own tubing for it, cause im not gonna pay 300 bucks for a air intake, after i paid 200. and to top it off, my cai keeps throwing check engine lights

So hypothetically...having an injen in the mail...whats gonna be the best way to set it for the time being?
I'm thinking about SRI, and then switch to CAI once it starts getting warm again. Alternatively, would I be fine to just go to CAI?
It seems like the only hard info anyone has is that SRI gives a bit better throttle response in the midrange / DD range. CAI gives better throttle response in the high speed / high RPM arena, and can also boost gas mileage a bit. People each say one sounds better than the other, so it kind of cancels out since its opinion anyway.
is this an accurate set of assertions? Anyone have anything to add? haha.
