its because everythign is big in expectation of a built top end (port and polished head) and then some high compression...then ill get my tq back

Limitation is only the size of your pocketbook one off high compression pistons with custom length rods to improve the rod ratio should be on any N/A list our rod ratio isn't the greatest a better rod ratio=less friction from the piston riding the wall freeing up some horsepower.

If you really want to learn about different ways to make power N/A look at Honda-Tech there making stupid power with tricks and time tested ways that we can apply as well.

Like I said Hondas know how to do it. I saw a celica GT-S dyno at 276hp on 93 octane(bolt ons/aggressive cams), and a k24 dyno at 288hp with bolt ons and mild cams all on 93 octane. Granted these cars are high revving very effcient engine whose to say we cant it just takes alot more guesswork, research and money.

Honestly. I don't know how much HP I have with all my mods know

Yes and no. Will they work yes, I ran stage 2s on stock valvetrain, but if you talk to Comp and read the cam card on the box its says upgraded valvetrain is needed. Our stock springs are fairly weak and coil bind early with any cams. Espcially if your looking to rev

umm do yourself a favor, if you happen to meet up with a Quad4HO car, don't expect to beat it.

It surprises me how few Ecotec fans know anythign about the DOHC 4 banger that came before the Ecotec;

Quad4HO cars
  • 1989-1994 Grand Am (look for engine callouts & simulated dual exahust; auto cars should be easy pickings though)
  • 1989-1991 Calais I-series (the ones with the automatic (non-HO) should be easy pickings though)
  • 1990-1991 Calais 442 (seriously, if you see the 442 badge, don't bother)
  • 1992-1994 Acieva SC (the ones with the V6 should be easy pickings though)
  • 1992-1993 Acieva SCX (if you see an SCX badge, don't bother)
  • 1990-1993 Beretta GTZ (the 91-93's with the V6 should be easy pickings though)
  • 1994 Beretta Z26 (the ones with the V6 should be easy pickings though)

how's this for a picture encapsulating what Quad4HO car can do against a Cobalt SS (2.4L);

(this was my sig here before buying my '09 SS btw)

Oh, and btw, watch out for '00+ Cavaliers & Sunfires with the GMPP supercharger bolted to their 2.4L...

ok, back to the OP,
I'd recommend a cam swap any day of the week - many people here seem to downplay the benefits of actual engine mods (as opposed to non-engine stuff like: tune, cai, ect);

one of my favorite video's on youtube is of a cammed Cobalt - I love the sound of cammed cars!!

YouTube - cammed 2.2 w/ longtube header vid 2

I'm pretty sure if you cam your car, and do any associated mods, you will not regret it - you will actually probably end up making fun of those who tell you to not bother.

EDIT:

only after posting did I notice that the video I posted was of NWAE_Cobalt's car!

thanks for the video quote and kind words
the engine has been swapped (spun rod bearing & tapped valves) since then...and I need to get some new vids (rolling and idle).
sounds even a bit meaner now
