SSBC :: SSBC Performance Brake Systems is the company's website. I am looking to get the kit from Urbanworx this spring. I have been told that the rear brakes after the kit will lock up easily. I have a NON-ABS car so I plan to rework the brake lines to add in an adjustable proportioning valve to keep the rears from locking up. If your car is ABS equipt I don't know how the factory system will react.
You could convert to factory rear disk but the cost (unless you could get everything used for cheap) would be more than the SSBC kit.

Just a note: If you have the F23 manual, you will need to keep in mind that the emergency brake on the 4 wheel disc cobalts SUCKS SWEATY *****. Unless that SSBC system has drum in hat for its ebrake system, it'll give you issues. If there is one thing I heavily miss from the G5, it was the rear drum for its e-brake.

1. Purchase a complete rear axle from a cobalt SS ($300 @ wreckers)
2. Contact R1 Concepts and purchase a set of rear rotors for a cobalt SS and ask them to custom drill the rotors to 4x100 ($180)
3. Buy a set of rear Hawk HPS pads for a cobalt SS ($85)
4. Transfer your 4x100 hubs to your new SS axle you purchased.
5. Install your custom 4x100 rotors and Hawk pads onto your new axle
6. Install rear axle, brake lines, parking brake cables..........
That's the only way I would do it unless you have $1200+ to buy the SSBC kit

Come on, these cars are twist beam. It should be pathetically easy to fine some other car out there with twist beam and 4 lug with rear disks. All it takes is a stroll down the isles of your local junk yard.
