cat mod question
i have an idea to free up the exhaust side of my car.... maybe against emission laws but that is fine, as long as it helps out with power. my idea is take the cat off and get a piece of exhaust pipe that fits pretty tight inside of the cat, sharpen the edge of the pipe some and drive it through the cat (basically cutting the honeycomb out some) pull the pipe out and clean it. insert the pipe again and putting a weld on each side of the cat and reinstalling it. my area does not do much of an emissions test. they look to make sure it is there and that is it.
will this mod work well, or not? havent really looked under the car to see if i have an o2 sensor after the cat.
all answers will be appreciated

please dont do this..your cat, even the stock one from gm is a high flow cat, by gutting it you're saving a whole .001hp..
not to mention it will make an aweful exhaust tone, and you're bound to throw a code as stated before

Changing just the downpipe can result in 10-15 horsepower.
Just get a header and aftermarket downpipe

and every cat since 1985 is a high flow cat. sure some brands might get 1% better airflow..but they're all really the same

Well actually i don't think the stock gm cat is a high flow... does anyone ever notice the rpms studder and go down before hitting the gas... like at an idle or pulling out... this is caused because of the header/downpipe... several people changed the exahust out and solved this problem...

Maybe if you can get 15 hp if you upgrade the entire exhaust...

See i think maybe we have different views... maybe you don't like to hear an exhaust system on a cobalt that crackles and pops because it has no cat... I saw the video of Blownbalt's passes and it sounds SICK!!!!! Hes got 3in downpipe no cat.. resonnators and something else i forget...
I want my car to crackle and pop and be loud as ****... **** the cat
But i want to do the upper exhaust first so thats why i was wondering what it would sound like with a stock catback...
Anybody got any opinions? Thanks
