CEL from header dp.
I recently had a ZZP midlength header DP installed.
It does have a high flow cat, and I'm still getting that CEL for catalyst efficiency below threshold. I used to work at Advance and Autozone when I was younger so they let me borrow their scanners for a few hours if needed. Even when I clear the codes its no more than a day before I start driving like an idiot and throw that code. I get that along with the infamous 171 , system to lean or w/e that one was.
The worst part about that system too lean code, is the fact that I use the fujita intake. It uses the huge plastic air collector then just connects to the CAI piping to go into the wheel well. The only places where it could leak is at the filter, where the hose goes on the pipe, and at the throttlebody. All of which have been tightened VERY tight.
Knowing I was cruising around with one CEL code was troubling enough. Now knowing that I have two is really unnerving. Is there a "high performance" universal 02 sensor that I can install that will make the computer understand this flow was INTENTIONAL. Can this stuff be fixed w/ a simple tune?

RE: the Cat CEL -- I haven't done this to confirm -- there have been threads posted where people are using 2 sparkplug anti-foul plugs, drilling the centers out to install the O2 sensor in and stopping their CEL.
They install the O2 sensor in one anti-foul plug, install that plug into another anti-foul plug, and then installing that combination into the DP.
Might try that....

ark sells a cel eliminator for that im gunna buy that when i get my h/dp, it just takes the o2 sensor out of the way of the flow exhaust so you dont get a cel works well from what i have heard.

Well my concern isn't so much the CEL light, as much as possibly the gas mileage change they may cause.
I'd imagine if a cel is being thrown the engine is doing something to "try" to compensate?

P0420 doesnt affect anything. Its just to monitor the cat. Theres no such thing as a high flow compatible O2 sensor, because the problem isnt the sensor, its the cat/your tune(if youve got one)
Ceramic core highflow cats are garbage. They set codes, thats it.(ZZP even tells you this on their site ) Its because they dont have the same storage capacity as the OEM cat. Getting tuned may fix it(definitely will fix it if you have the P0420 set to nonreporting status), getting a metallic core cat will fix it. The plug antifouler trick does work surprising well on about 90% of cars.

sorry to thread jack, but which hi-flow cats are the best for being smog legal? I know a lot of companies advertise they are but I don't always trust sales pitches

thanks Maven. useful knowledge as always
I read the whole thread smartass. The part where Maven mentioned the three aforementioned companies only touched on ceramic v. metallic cats and who uses what. Not how well they stay within the bounds of the law.
on a lighter note, thanks for the useless post

I honestly felt like being lazy and just asking since we were already on the topic and I knew that someone with knowledge (Maven) was watching the thread.
But that's cool man, I'm not even going to argue with you.
Obviously you > me
jerkoff.

Seriously Tru2nrtt you may not intend it but you do come off as a smartass on just about every occasion I've seen thus far. You need to RE READ your posts and maybe even have a girl friend read them as well to screen them for rude sarcasm, ignorant insults, and all around shitty attitude.

Just get Vince at Trifecta Performance to send you a tune with the Catalyst Code Disabled.
You'll get a few more Hp too from the tuning

idk sometimes I hate the way they look on my car. maybe I would feel differently if I put my coilovers on and it was lowered. hahaha I don't feel like doing all of that work. and I'm tight on money. Idk, still debating on keeping the coilovers too haha
