CEL and no DIC Coolant Display...ideas?

Hey everyone, its been quite a few months since I've posted anything on here, school, work, and the Army have really been killing me lately...

Ok so my DIC coolant is reading as --- and sometimes works and displays the coolant temp, and then my CEL will go off after 3 diagnostic cycles and it works fine and then my coolant will go back to being --- and after a diagnostic cycle fails it'll kick on my CEL again. I looked on the GM Parts direct website, the only thing I can think of replacing would be the thermostat....I drive an 07 LS with no coolant system mods.

Any ideas of whats wrong or what I need to replace?

What codes are you getting? Seeing as its intermittant its likely that youve got a poor connection, a wiring issue or an ECM issue, only reason i say that is that temp sensors dont usually go in and out like that, its just a thermistor, they are usually good or bad. But it could be the sensor.

CTS=Coolant Temp Sensor, that is what we refer to it at school and what our Chassis Electrical books say.

Well......forget about CTS unless youre talking about a Cadillac. Your book and school shouldnt be referring to it as that, the OBD2 standard term is ECT for Engine Coolant Temp.

It isnt that specific, my school teaches carbs and one of the instructors was around the dinosaurs were. Hell, our demo cars are an 88 camaro, a 94 cavalier, and a 98 lesabre.

Well I went and bought the new sensor (quoted me a price of 29.99, brought it out of the back with a sticker on it that said 24.99 and said he was gonna give me a "break") took it home, popped the old one out put the new one in, my CEL went away after a couple drives, and the thermostat instantly showed me a lower number than I had ever seen before cruising at 65 with an ambient temperature of 80, usually rolls me at around 185, it was down to 176 so I think the old stock one was just a piece of crap that was gonna fail sooner or later......no worries problem solved
