you should be able to pull him easily

when racing a zx3 with intake/header/exhaust I regained 2 cars from the launch (i did not launch whatsoever) and then put an additional car on him before I shut down and probably would have kept pulling had I kept going.

my last car had the 2.0 zetec, its not as quick as the ecotec...neither is the 2.0 duratec

A stock ZX3 does the 1/4 in about 16.9 seconds

You should be able to rape him, and then some

yeah you can probably take him, unless he had a 5speed with my old engine, i had an automatic zx3 with the 2.3 engine, its like 145 hp or so but the cars only weigh like 2500

Focus v. Cobalt 2.2

My buddy just got a Cobalt 2.2 ls 5 spd and i have the 2.0 hatch 5spd with magnaflow exhaust and a sport spring kit, he has no mods. Aneway we are discussing racing and the few times we played on the street he pulled me but i want to take him to the local drags on their "street legal" night. Do you think i can take him??

It'd probably be a driver's race, and it sounds like your friend has his stuff together. Throw some more mods at your engine and you'll be able to beat him...a catback without header/highflow cat/ORP doesn't really do anything since the stock header and cat are so restrictive, and obviously springs aren't going to make you any faster (although get him to an autocross and you'll have a chance to beat him in the corners.)

+1 for driver's race. The Ecotec is a decent piece of engine, the transaxle they bolted to it tho in the Cobalt is geared DEEP, and widely spaced, which should help you a bit.

So is that you or your friend on the other forum??? And why are you linking it here? I noticed that the cars are how you described. And you are from the same city, also w/ 6 posts. To me it doesn't seem like that huge of a challenge, you guys should just go out there and race.

Also I agree that this is the first link to another forum where they don't seem to be talking ****.

focuses are crap imo. The fastest model (the svt) is still running very high 15's... you should be able to take him.

The Fastest model (Saleen Focus) would probably take out a stock SS/SC in the 1/4!

well yea, if he gets a perfect launch, with a perfect reaction time, hits all his shifts perfectly, and you spin through first and miss the 1-2 then he will beat you...

yea well the saleen focus' warranty voids the second you use the nitrous that COMES WITH THE CAR....so let me rephrase my statement....focuses are crap for various reasons. Oh and the saleen focus is riced out to the max, has a 100 shot of nitrous and still only runs mid 14's.

saleen focus's are lame, it comes with the setup but you gotta get the nitrous yourself, and thats pretty much all that comes with the car.

I doubt any of the above since this is (for both of us) our first manual cars, so perfect launches and shifts are not always happening.
