Has anyone tried this yet? For $40, I will probably try this out sometime in the summer if it has good reviews. The crank pulley in our cars isn't a harmonic balancer, is it?

i know, i found that one too, right now im deciding beween rksports underdrive or the zpec, but both originated from the cavalier, which is why im getting it, i will gueni pig the pulley for everyone, with pics and with a how to, ima go with the zpec pulley and the strut bar, i will be sure to let you guys know how everything works, looks, feels, and if it makes a diffrence

so basically i will write a review on both parts

added pic to original post

crap dude ours does have the harmonic dampener in it. theres gonna be a bit more vibration in your motor without that rubber thing being....well rubber......shoot tell me how it goes...if its not too much more vibe....I'll go on ahead and get it too....

thats not the way the harmonic dampener works.....it allows the crankshaft to rotate and give its vibrations from the detonations to the rubber part in the pulley, without it, all the vibrations are resonating in the motor - out to the mounts and so on. Solid crankpulleys been known to cause things to vibrate apart just like a harley without loctite.

As for having solid tranny mounts, a torque damper, those things hold your motor in place better than the stock ones. Those things hold your motor in place and transfer less energy energy into your body or your motor moving and put more of it right out to the wheels....vibrations...since they won't be absorbed by your motor moving around or your tranny moving around, the energy created has to go somewhere. It won't disappear, it'll transfer somewhere, more than likely your frame.....thats the shitty part of physics...

and everyone should be worried about vibrations....especially if it harmonizes itself in your head and cracks it, or worse...your block....

Yeah let us now how it goes, I know when I put a UDP on my V6 Mustang that I used to have it had a harmonic balancer like everyone is saying the Cobalt does. When you bought the UDP it came with a new one made for the new pulley though. I had to rent special tools from Autozone to get the pulley off and put it back on.

The main function of the crank damper is to absorb and dampen the rotational flex of the crank caused by the torque hits from each cylinder firing. This is why I questioned JPB about there solid aluminum crank pulley. Fluidyne did a nice write up on how a quality harmonic damper can actually add HP, and that replacing the stock one with a cheap aftermarket pulley with no damper can cause the engine to lose power, besides the risk of damage increasing. Not worth it in my opinion.

I'm not sure if many of you know, but Z-spec use to be RSM racing. RSM racing had this small problem of not shipping products that were paid for, and using very low quality materials. For instance a blank of T6-6061 aluminum costs more than they are selling the machined pulley for.

Notice on their site how the only contact info is an Email address. No phone or address.
I tried to find them on the BBB website, and them seem to be gone. There us to be tons of negative info on them on there, but it seems to be all gone.
If you go to www.J-body.org and Search for RSM you find a lot of negative aspects of the company.

You get what you pay for.....

I've been on J-Body.org since 1999 and Mike ^ is 100% correct.

I would NOT recommend buying anything from that company.

Their are only 2 companies that started out there that are 100% reliable, both of which happen to be sponsors here as well. AllEcotec.com/Carcustoms.net and A+ Performance. Buy from them, they will NEVER rip you off.
