think about it this way: our 2.2s have more displacement than the SS/SC.
at $20000(right? im just estimating here) for the base model SS/SC compared to the $13000 base model LS, im POSITIVE you can spend that extra $7000 to be faster than an SS/SC.
plus, whats more fun than working on your car yourself? and not buying one thats already fixed up.
but the resale value is for the LS

If you're looking for cheap speed, look elsewhere....these cars cost lots of money to make fast. Shyt, 3-4 grand into an srt4 and you're already into the low 400's

all cobalts resale is really bad. which doesnt make much sense to me cause the quality is better then 90's gms. But in a way its a good thing because parts are cheaper. 2.2 cobalts have lots of potential any ecotec does. It depends what you want to build. If you want a good all around car its a good buy because there are lots of parts and the price is cheap. 150 hp isnt bad start (only the lancer has a more hp stock motor in that class). Upgrade suspention and brakes, tires and you have a good street car. For a drag/ street car maybe it may not be your best choice. For a fully built drag car it will be ok if you have the money and time. It comes down to what you want and what you can afford and planning will save you tons of cash in the end.

I plan on driving my cobalt into the ground. I"m talking like 300,000 miles plus. I don't see the point in continously getting a new car every 5 years. When a part breaks. I fix it with something better, much better.
So when my struts blew at 23k miles... buy konis
Brakes went bad at 20k miles.... buy EBC Sport Rotors
Headlight bulb burnt out at 6k miles.... made HID Retrofits
Stock wheels looked weird in my opinion... bought 17" Motegis.
I would rather invest money in a car I already own and make it fast and nice, then buy a new car every 5 years and get RAPED in sales taxes every year. Here in omaha,NE it's 12%. So if you bought a $20,000 cobalt SS.. thats $2,400 to license and plate the bitch. Now do that every 5 years, and you could have built a mean ass car.
I guess what I am getting at, is unless the body panels have massive whole in them... why sale the car? It runs great, I love the way it looks... Unless something comes out that is dirt cheap and could fly to mars in back... I'm not trading or getting rid of my cobalt.
Nobody says you have to buy everything at once. I have a storage shed at my apartment that's full of stuff. Spare Block, Spare Head, valves, springs, lifters.... basically a whole motor minus the manifolds and oil pan. It won't be going ito my car until next spring, but over the summer that motor is gunna recieve a lot of attention.

The point was for about the same price he has a faster car.... I'm sure the money that SS/SC Would dump into a stage 2 and heat exchanger the 2.2L could build up a motor and boost like crazy.

If you want to spend alot of money yes, but i just spent less than 3k on a car yesterday that will get me into the 13s very easily and is rwd so if i were you thats the route i would take, just do the bolt ons to make it more fun as a DD and leave it at that.

I do think it is funny that most of the people on here who are talking about the cost are including shop prices, DYI and you can easily kill SS/SC's. So far I have priced it and my base was 14k add about 4k for mods and I will be faster than an SC. Currently I have a whopping $300 in right now.
