downpipe installation, bolt problem

Heyllo!

Does anyone have any tips on removing the bolts that hold the manifold and the downpipe together?

So far I can't even budge the bolts. I can't fit my impact wrench in the either. I tried cutting the bolt but don't have enough room in there to position the dremel correctly.

So now I have 2 bolts that won't move and one that is only half a bolt but still stands strong lol.

Anybody fought with those before?

If i could remove the 2 that haven't been touched yet im sure i could somehow "rip" the other one apart but at the moment i am all out of ideas (after literally about 15 hours of trying...)

Thanks.

gotta get the impact in there. Use about 3 feet of extension, worked for me.

Did you somehow fit it from the top of the engine bay, or from under the car? Under the car is very hard for me because i only have those little ramps that i can use (and my head is big so i hit myself on the lower components of the engine lol).

it was a big, big bitch for me too... me and my father were putting in my downpipe, and what we finally ended up doing was putting the wrench on the bolt... then we took a sledgehammer, and put the wood part (not the big mallet part) against the wrench and i pushed... popped off no problem... before we came up with that idea, we sat there for no exageration a full hour taking turns trying to loosen the bitch... basically, you need more torque on the wrench...

Yeah, under the car, but I had the car on a lift. I don't know about doing it on the ground. Also, try running the car for 1-2 mins first, let the pipe get some heat in it. May help with frozen bolts a little bit.

pvc pipe on the end of the wrench? gives you alot of extra leverage...

did you try getting something to leverage it with? like i suggested, a sledgehammer? if you don't have one, anything long will do... above was suggested pvc pipe, or really and pipe, or even a hammer to give the wrench a lil tap

I used a 1/2 inch rachet from the top. Put a 1 1/4" closed end wrench over the end to use for leverage. Cowboy-up and pull hard enough to break the studs. That's what I did.

Good luck.

If you have a steel pipe that can fit over the handle of the wrench and is long enough to give you some extra leverage then try that. All you will need to worry about then is just keeping the wrench on the actuall bolts.

As others have said it is just a matter of extra torque.

haha... give your bolts a good soak before you try, and that should be enough... if it wasn't for that one damn bolt, the whole thing would have taken about 10 minutes... it's really not hard, if they're stuck there's plenty of good advice here for getting them off

Just got back from work, ill be trying all the advice now. Hopefully it works, and if it works on the 2 bolts i haven't screwed up, then i pray i will be able to get the other one off lol...

Omg............... I found my other wrench that is almost twice as long as my other one, and the length gave me enough torque....
So much time wasted, if i only found this wrench sooner lol

actualy, i think he should be ok with the ramps as long as he set his parking break and left it in a gear.

but what amazes me is...how the hell did you get it on those ramps? ive tried and my car sits to low. each time i did it, i stacked 2x4's on top of each other in a ramp like fashion, just so i can get under there to change the oil.

Good thing I have a lift now
