Engine Build Q's...

Planning on starting an engine build soon and am just really too lazy to read the GM Build Book right now so I figured I'd start a discussion about it.

Block:
Does the block need to be resleeved making decent horsepower numbers? Has anyone ever tried to stroke an L61 before? To what degree did it work or not?

Valvetrain:
Has anyone ported and polished an L61 head, and what kind of gains were made? And, again being too lazy to call Comp right now, of the L61 cams being produced right now, which ones are best for blown applications?

Transmission:
Any other manual trans that will mount to an L61 and be an improvement over the F23?

Like I said, I could go find all of this information on my own, I just dont want to. Plus, its get's my activity on the forums back up a little.

To stroke an l61, youd need a 2.4 crank and stuff, been done, gen2 sleeves are good to around 400whp, after that youll need sleeves

Porting an l61 head, a company called patriot used to sell them years ago, so yes its been done.

Swapping the tranny seems a bit drastic, they can hold good power with a strong clutch as long as you be nice to it, they dont have problems like the f35 does.

And for cams on an 07, the only company that made them was jbodyperformance and ive never heard of anyone running them

Good to know on the sleeves. I know ZZP does head porting, but I'd have to call them to see if they do L61's. Do you happen to recall any information about gains from the Patriot heads? What are these trannies rated for HP wise? And do we have upgraded axle support? Cam wise, Im an 08, so I dont know if anyone has cammed an 08 but I figure making it breathe better will help out later on down the road. Comp has a couple off the shelf right now that claim to go up to 08 models. I know about the whole machining down the intake cam a little and pressing the cam sensor on, but I've also heard that you can tune out the sensor and then pretty much run any cams you want within reason. I may just have to end up calling Comp on that one.
