The engine is in but wont fire up

Hey guys, ill make a real build thread later this weekend after i figure out this issue. I bought a brand new battery tonight and went to fire her up and she just turns over. I verified that its not fuel because i unhooked my 5th injector and fuel shoots out when you turn the car into the on position and the exhaust smells like gas so that should mean the injectors are semi-working. The TB is functioning so the last thing it could be is spark. Any ideas guys? The car sounds good when it turns over, but just doesnt wanna turn on.

EDIT: On another note, the fuel in the car is from last May, but we tested it and it ignites just fine. Could it still possibly be bad/old fiuel?

Ya the crank sensor is brand new, and plugged in. i went over it for multiple days making sure its all wired in and the MAF is connected properly. My MAF setup is a bit different then most because of my turbo kit.

Yup, thats how i supply the fuel under boost. soon ill be running 4 secondary injectors like hahns port fueler but on the SSTC manifold.

you may think i'm crazy but i have seen a good battery cause electrical interferance and mask the crank signal. i spent almost three days at work trying to start a car with carnk sensor and cam sensor codes. turned otu it was the battery. it had a good charge and passed all test, put in a different battery and boom, fired right up. of coures this was on a shitty jaguar but hey, just trowen it out there

No i havent cleared pending codes yet, dont really have a way to do it. I wish i had a dashawk but thats coming soon hopefully.

Heres a pic of the engine bay, you can see the 5th injector setup easily.

Checked them as well. I know its gotta be spark but not really sure how to test it fully. Its got brand new plugs in gapped to .040 and the ignition box or w/e you wanna call it was sitting in the front seat for the past 1.5years waiting to go back on the head.

take a plug out and hook up the coil and crank it over having some one touch the ground strap on the plug to the engine it will spark if it has spark... you have to verify three major things... fuel, spark, and compression

Ya, i verified fuel, just need to do spark and compression. i already talked to my buddy down the street. im going to pick up his compression tester tomorrow morning and test the spark like you said at the same time. its just way to dark right now to work outside and its getting cold or i would do it right now. Im glad im thinking in the right direction tho. I appreciate all your help.

Man i hope so. im also going to remove the TB hat that houses the 5th injector to make sure its not flooding the engine on startup.

i heard this was an issue with a lot of the SMT guys. the 5th injector would be static upon startup for some reason, flooding the engine....may also explain why you can smell the gas....or maybe thats just cause youve been cranking it over so many times...lol

just dont crank it for several hours...try again in the AM, and if its still a no go, then time to check compression/spark

is it cranking smoothly? or kind of rough?

Im goin back outside right now to try it again. The thing is i didnt even have the clip on the 5th injector so there was no power to it anyways. But that wouldnt help if its stuck open anyways. Im goin out to try it now.

NEW: Ok well it still isnt starting. Pulled the TB hat off and the injector is not allowing any fuel out. So now to test the spark and compression.

Another update: Tested Ignition. I took the ignition assembly or whatever its called off, took out cyl 1's plug, hooked it up and touched the side of the plug on the block as my roommate tried to start the car. No spark is showing at all. Am i doing it correctly? If so then i dont believe im getting any spark.

if not getting spark check cap and see if wires are in the right order. that may sound stupid but if just 2 wire are in the wrong place it aint going to matter. also no spark can come from craked plugs.

You cant possibly mess up the wires on the ignition. On the 2.2 its all one piece. All you do is hook the clip from the wiring harness onto the end of it. Also brand new plugs just put in last night. Autolite Double Plat. gapped at .040. Those are just temporary until i get my NGK Iridium 2step colder plugs in the mail.

you can still mess them up. a guy brought me his car and that was all that was wrong and he said the same thing.

did you get it started yet?

there are zero exposed wires on this thing. I never did anything but pull the entire module off the head and sit it down. it has 4 bolts and a clip at the end. theres no exposed wires to this at all.

im at the dealer picking up another 1 since this one is not sparking. its been sitting outside in my car for 1.5 years

still haven't gotten it started. can't seem to get spark even with the new ICM. we tested without the boot on as well and still no spark.

theres nothing with the ECM that would cause it to not start would it? like some security feature or something?
