Arrow Exhaust resonation OPINION question. In hurry.

Alright. I've had another post goin for a day or so now about my current header/exhaust predicament.

Bottom line, I had the tone I wanted prior to ZZP Header / catted DP. Now its obnoxiously loud and RICEY. I hate the sound.

I was looking at my exhaust which is magnaflow btw. There is a 12" resonator on the pipe. I'm wondering what would be the best alternative to settle the noise down. 16" glass pack, ( 2.5 inlet / outlet, 4" diam case, OR Perforated tube style, w/ the same measurements. I want to get rid of RASP, and bring down the tone quite a bit.

I'm all about stayin cheap and I"ve found these "drag mufflers" that i'm gonna use as a resonator for like 30-60 bucks. Please advise.

The 16" glass pack in addition to the resonator you have now should quiet it down a lot.

what header/dp did you get?
sounds to me like you went to big.
thats usually the cause of raspy ricey sounds.

Good call, I totally forgot that ZZP offers the header in 1.75". Yeah, that would be too big for a 2.2.

Hopefully that glasspack is going to do the trick for you cuz you are right that does sound like pooh. My friend balt with stock header and stock cat with a 2.5 inch cat back sound low and deep.

Well. I unfortunately had to take off the resonator that originally came w/ the exhaust due to both it being clogged, and not having any spot other than one 36 inch ( give or take ) straight line in my piping.

At low rpm the sound is MUCH quieter w/ the bigger resonator. HOWEVER, above 3.7-4.3ish its still loud and raspy. Its so weird because its a like a clanky type rasp.

Clanky sounds like you still have a leak. by now you should have a little carbon buildup around the leak.

Well LOL after putting on the new resonator. I was leak checking the next day and sure enough I found one. I could feel hot air shooting out at my hand while somebody else was pushin the gas 4 me. I went and bought some of that Thermoseal to try to fix it cuz I just didn't feel like bothering the guy who put it on for me again. Even if its temporary at least I'll know where to fix it. Hopefully this is the reason it still sounds raspy.

Ahh ok then meanie! I still can't get rid of that metallic rasp sound. I have sealed all the leaks. I'm wondering if its just my muffler thats doing it.

To answer how it runs, like a bat outta hell for a lil 2.2. From the performance aspect, I couldn't be happier w/ this header dp. Just the noise is far higher than what i expected. I'm wondering if I should just take that 18" resonator back and try the 3 ft one. I just bought the summit racing straight through glass pack.

It may be the muffler itself. It almost sounds as if when they made it, they forgot to put in the packing material. Remember, they are made by humans and all humans screw up from time to time. Sounds just like the only sound reduction is from the resonator. Sounds as if you have no muffler at all. My cobalt with the stock exhaust and resonator removes sounds great w/the 5x8x14 Magnaflow on it. Not too loud and not too quiet. It only has a hint of rasp at cold start up. After it warms up, it's clean and deep sounding all the time.

Hmm werid. What really gets me is prior to header dp, I LOVED the sound of that muffler.

I mean it was low and throaty. Now its just raspy and ..well annoying. I do have a sensitive ear when it comes to rasp. As I already drive a 4 cylinder, LS N/A. I laugh at loud cars that aren't fast. Now I'm driving one.

Actually I just had a thought guys. Hope theres still some viewers of this.

When I did my CAI, I bought Fujita which uses the stock air collector. Could this be doing anything to my performance ?

Have you checked to see if youve got any loose bolts/fittings/heat shields under the car or under the hood.

When I got my car it had this rattle/vibration that I could only hear at idle, sometimes, or if was coasting down in gear. After about a month of thinking I was insane I put it up in the air one last time, and I found that my heat shield that bolts to the block was missing a bolt from the factory. It was obvious that it was NEVER there. I installed a bolt, loctited it to show it I meant business and Ive been noise free since

Hmm your the second person to report an issue w/ that heat shield. You think theres a chance that the increased flow from the header dp is causing it to vibrate at WOT ONLY?
