yeah so my dad bought me a cobalt *LT* its slow as ****. My buddy told me that if i get a stage 3 turbo that **** would rip, but i havent found anything about turboing my AWSOME 2.2L DOHC ECOTEC. can anyone help me out on making this ***** faster?

A turbo by itself will cause your stuff to blow up very fast. You would need the supporting internals to make a turbo work and be dependable. More importantly, it would cost around $5000 for a turbo kit. Once you have the turbo on, then you must upgrade the transmission, suspension and brakes to handle this new found power. It really isn't worth the time, money, and aggravation. Be happy that your parents bought you a car. Don't complain. My dad made me build my first car. I had to build a 94 chevy S-10. I started on it when I was 15 and finished it when I was 17, but had a great appreciation for it when I was done.

Well i was just curiouse if there was anything i could do to make this car faster. Its going to be my car for a while so the upgrades and **** is all future goals but is there anything i can do, or should i even engine swap or what. like i said, future goal is to just pimp this car out.

And i dont want anyone to think im some spoiled little **** im extremely greatful for getting this car. my dad wont be buying the upgrades i will so..

I get hated on all the time for my remarks all the time regarding performance for the 2.2, but if I were you I would focus on visuals. Lower it, put a different set of rims and tires on it, get the headlamps painted, put a good sound system in it, maybe a few interior changes. That is what I would do.

Yeah ken i was planning on doing all that as well, especially if there is nothing i can do to make it faster. Then if i do that, ill get people wanting to race me all the time and ill get smoked

First of all...Dont "pimp your ride"...in real automotive terms its modify or mod for short. Second of all dont complain about your parents giving you a car, b/c alot of us on here had to buy our own cars so you wont get sympathy in that department. Ok now finally use the search button to find info on your car. There is a whole section dedicated to your car...lok through it and Im sure you will find more than enough info to mod your car.

You don't have to race them. I hardly ever race even with all the stuff I have done to my ss/sc. I get challenged all the time, but I hjardly ever do it.

Sorry, didnt know there was a set term for making your car better. also, im not complaining. if you could read i stated how extremly greatful i was on getting this car. This thread isnt me complaining about my car its asking how i can mod it but thanks for wasting my time on typing this up as well as taking up space on my thread

Ok I had to scold you now I'll help you. Here's the list that put my 04 2.2 ECO powered Cavi running 14.7's in a 1/4 mile. INJEN intake, Pacesetter header, Dynomax hi-flow 2.5 inch cat, custom made 2.5 inch exhaust with Dynomax turbo style muffler, solid lower mount, lightweight pully set, lightweight flywheel, short throw shifter, home ported intake manifold and header and intake and exhaust runners on the head.

Now true the Balt will be a few tenths sloer then the Cavi just cause it weighs a little more BUT this should put you running high 14's and still be N/A and its little things you can do little by little and mom and dad won't catch on or know what your doing.

Now start modding that freebie!

Be happy that your Dad "bought" YOU a car, thats new. You could look at it this way, its faster than an Aveo, civic, focus (instert slower cars here). Remember, it's an economy car.

If you want more speed, get some boltons.
If and when you can afford it, go turbo.

First off you should be greatful that you dad bought you a brand new car in the first place. Most people aren't as privileged as you are. Yea it may not be a supercharged ss but still its a brand new car and with some work and money you can make it better. Biggest thing with a turbo is that yes they have kits out but there is no widely available tuning for the 2.2L. There are several companies that have it in the works and i would assume by the end of the yr we should start to see some. However like a lot of the other members state you can't just slap a turbo on and tune it. Some internal engine work will be required as well.

If you think your LT is slow you really need to get out and drive some other cars!
For a 4-banger all cobalt models are fairly "nimble" -- compared to a lot of real "dogs" I've had the unfortunate experience of renting/driving.

Hi and welcome to the site. I am sure that you meant for your first post to be friendly and not alienate the people on here that may be able to help you ( the ones who have the same "shitty" 2.2 that you have). If you have no idea of how your engine operates or the effect of just slapping on a turbo, maybe you should leave the hood closed and only let the "grown ups" touch the motor.
